Guys! Gals! Don't you just hate every waking moment of every single day addicted, hooked and controlled by pornography? I do. Don't you feel that your life ambitions/ grades are suffering because of your mind fog!? If so; you're definitely not alone.
[move] Now- do you know exactly how long one's to abstain from pornography to retrieve one's working memory back? Please answer, it would be of great help!

Hi!

I guess there is no exact answer to your question - it depends on how old are you, how deep were you into the addiction etc. The younger you are, the more porn meant to you, the longer must be the period of abstinence to get rid of an addiction.

I would say that it is about half a year to have your working memory back. I've already passed 23 days being clean and I see big changes in my mind, but still I am kind of afraid that it might come back and I feel that my brain works much better than a month ago, but it's not on its 100% yet.

My suggestion is not to deliberate over the length of period of abstinence but to stay focus on being clean and to enjoy everydays' improvement.

I am 16 and I've been on porn for a whole year and my grades dramatically fell. They were A's/A*'s and they fell to C's and U's because my motivation drastically reduced (so much so that I didn't have enough motivation go to school for 3 months)- therefore I didn't even think of revising, and if I did, I just could not concentrate. Now, I remember being able to memorize things easily and be able to cover 2 pages in an hour and a half , however now it takes so long to understand stuff and my ability to remember things has gone. In addition, I'm not deliberating over how long it would take for my memory to come back, I just need reassurance because exams are soon that I'll be able to revise and do well since I believe I'm off porn for real now. Please help answer me! :D

Madae, I'm sorry to hear about your struggles. I was the same, and yes I do feel that p does have an affect on working memory as usually plain text to me always did look boring and more of a task when I tried to read. You could find that subjects which you were passionate about seem uncannily disinteresting, but seriously stick with this and you'll be fine.

The key is, to find yourself a quiet place and study, plan ahead, mindstate is definitely key, so create passion/anticipation for the subject. For instance if Maths is not your thing, remember it can be better than the creative subjects as there is usually one right answer and at least there's points for workings out.

I actually miss the good old days of GCSE man, I hope it pans out to be a sweet 16 for you too.
