GOOD porn-censoring software (not K9)

I've encountered a problem.

In past attempts at rebooting I have used K9 to censor my internet use. I ended up turning the thing off because my non-porn related activity was being affected as well. It's a buggy program. I've removed it from my hard drive.

Just now I was looking for an image to use as an avatar for this forum and pornographic images popped up at me.

I haven't counted seeing those images as 'watching porn' but I need to stay away from that stuff. At the same time, I don't want my computer seizing up on me.

Can anyone suggest a good program for restricting access to porn-related activity only.

PIC BLOCK

Or just turn off all categories in K9 except "Pornography". Hope it helps.

Pic block seems to mess with my computer, Youtube videos won't load properly and sometimes webpages won't load properly either. They'll load a totally random page instead. Hard to explain, but I've installed it twice and on both occasions it's given me issues. It;s a great idea though.

Thanks for the suggestion, but Pic Block stuffed my computer up, so I had to uninstall it. It wouldn't let me browse ANYTHING because my browser seized up.

Hmmm well then I guess just try un-selecting every blocking category of K9 except for "Pornography". I did that and it works super great.

I'm using OpenDNS.  I like it much better than K9 (which I deleted).  It has a really simple option that you can use to protect all devices in your home in one shot.  You simply use their DNS servers in your router; done.  Then all porn sites will magically be blocked from any device in your home.

It does not filter search results (for images, for example) though.  For that, I use safe-search and lock it.

Obviously, nothing is perfect, because I can disable these things any time I want to.  However, there are enough steps involved in doing that so that if I were tempted, I would have to really stop and think about what I was doing.  Works great for me.

hi there,

try this: http://yourbrainonporn.com/porn-blockers-internet-filters-0

If you are using firefox: "Anti Porn Pro" is a nice blocker as well as "Meta-cert" (both together however cause dysfunctions).
there also is an add-on called "image block". It creates a toggle in your taskbar (still FF) where you can switch off and on the javascript for pics or no-pics. If this is to weak of a solution you can change ste settings for pics-> about:config -> accept the warning -> search: permissions.default.image -> select factor "2" -> pictures are no longer shown/ inet speed dramatically increases.

best regards

Vincent
