I've been candid about my part in objectifying women and I've denounced it openly as well.
Quick glance upon discovery and turn away from that direction.
Easier said than done if that's what you've been doing all your life.
But I've done some research and asked questions on the matter.

This is just a little something from a mainstream press source:

So on to what I saw today;
I was standing in line at this cafe with two women in front of me. But it was one of these
lines where it zig zags instead of a straight line to save space. So you will have a clear view of
the customers backsides while in line at some point. The ladies were talking and then there
was a pause during which, one of them practically did a full body scan on this other female few
feet away. I know her buddy didn't notice but I sure did. She dipped her head and pretty much
had the other woman's ass locked on to her eyes for a good 2 seconds. I had to see what she was
looking at to confirm my suspicion. But this subject was with a very fit guy so maybe, just
maybe, she is trying to examine what this guy sees in her. Or maybe that's just what women do
sometimes. Now please don't get it twisted, in no way do I believe that her intentions were purely
lustful like the way men do it. I'm thinking women check out other women and sorta cross examine
with themselves.
At least that's one of the points the article was trying to make.
Is that also objectifying?

I guess we are hardwired to look at what we find attractive. I,can homes toy say  I have never stared at a mans butt. But sure have looked at the ladies.i can understand a woman looking at another ladies body, and not in a sexual context.maybe she was just admiring the fit of her clothes.
I have gotten many punches in the shoulder from my late wife to staring at ladies. Last year I was on a dinner date with my lady friend and she caught me stating at the waitress's butt as she served the next table.she said to me " like what you see" . I said what are you talking about I was just daydreaming. But I was busted. I have made a conscious effort not to do this when I am with her. I know when I am with my male friends I see them glare at women as the pass by while we are out eating.i just hope my looks are not so obvious. I try to be discrete.

Viper,

Objectification is failing to recognize the dignity and value of another human being. It isn't as narrow as oggling or gawking at ladies or men, although that can be a symptom of objectification.

There are many more articles to be found and yet to be written that can legitimize objectifying human beings. I think there is strong evidence that with a few sly triggers they could adequately convince a lot of men and women that they hold no value except as objects to give or receive pleasure.

The question isn't if the behavior is objectification. The question is if you will fall for it and be objectified in the process.

That's a key point, Gracie. When we objectify we, indeed, objectify ourselves in return. I see my self, my worth and my potential as a lover in much kinder terms since I started working at not objectifying. I still notice feminine beauty but I see it in the context of a sentient human. I also can get lost looking in the eyes of a woman. Eyes truly are the window to the soul and making brief eye contact when I talk to a woman is much more enjoyable than trying to check out her backside.

I don't think there is anything wrong with appreciating a woman's body.  I do it, and am not ashamed of it.  However, I have recently begun to realize how I've shifted from JUST appreciating her body to appreciating her as a person.  I think that porn has a way of making us see women especially as just a means to an end, instead of a whole human being with her own personality, problems, emotions, and desires.  This has been a huge shift for me, and while I'm still checking out women, I find myself wondering about who they are in addition to just liking her body.  To only pay attention to a woman's body completely negates the fact that this is only part of who she really is as a person.

As to the OP, I wonder how many women are bi-sexual because they see it so much on porn.  People begin to act out what they watch sooner or later...scary thought seeing as we know the novelty of porn is what hooks us.
