THE BEST SPIRITUAL WAY TO FIGHT TEMPTATION

10 weeks ago I tore my rotator cuff. A smart person would quit lifting weights and would start icing the injury twice per day. I kept lifting weights and refused to ice it.

Some of you are planning to quit porn. Today you will be told that you should print out a bunch of verses https://www.openbible.info/topics/lust about the subject and use them to fight temptation. Meditate on them and pray over them. You will also be told to learn the habit of turning immediately and aggressively from lust.

Back to the injury:

Here is the thing. It was way easier for me to do what I wanted to do 10 weeks ago. However... 10 weeks later I really wish that I had been smart, not stupid 10 weeks ago.

9 weeks ago it would have been smart for me to find rehab exercises online. I could have really strengthened my shoulder by now. But I was toooooo busy. It is still weak right now. It hurts right now. 9 weeks later I really wish that I had been smart, not stupid 9 weeks ago.

Finally, 3 weeks ago I started rehab exercises. Better late than never.

But hey. I am not an idiot. I did start my exercises and I do them fanatically now every day. The problem is being worked on and it will be solved.

Back to habits:

If you don't have the two habits from paragraph two it would be smart to acquire them now so that in 10 weeks you will be on your way. If you have these habits, dig until you find a new habit today to help you quit.

Conclusion:

I am really glad I started rehab 3 weeks ago. Now I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

This is day two of my compilation of turning from lust.

Fifth: Pray: “Father, help me to turn from sin, and give me the strength for new activities.” I love this 2-way prayer. God wants me to turn from sin and I want to increase in strength. The more I work on turning from sin, the more strength I will start to have.

Sixth: If I poll every person on this site who has learned the habit of turning from lust and who is free for 100 days and ask: Are you happier now? 99% would say yes. Memorize that fact. Believe them, believe God, and tell satan that you won't be fooled again.

Seven: Say no instantly when lust starts. Then decide if you need to go to the verses for quitting to overcome the temptation, or whether it is mild enough for you to fight it off with prayer.

Eight: When we study scripture we start to understand which desires we should fight often. When I watch TV I want to look at a beautiful woman. If I do that in excess I will come to a crossroads where it will “give birth to sin.” Instead, I can pray to run from sin several times when I turn on a new program. Instead, I can find other activities to do. Instead, I can remember that something always dies if I allow my current habits to lead me back to porn.

2 Timothy 2:22 ESV

So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

Flee means, “Don't do it, and run with all your might.” Flee means you are blocking the TV screen with one hand while you forward fast with the other. Flee means, you drop everything and run to scripture when tempting thoughts keep harassing you.

Nine: Yesterday I wrote about building a pyramid of great new activities which will greatly assist you. But, the challenge is remembering to do them. You can try sticky notes on your mirror, phone alarms, accountability partners, and notes on your desk, or calendar. You can develop codes so that the whole world does not know what is going on: While working I wrote TAFS a zillion times, which means – Turn aggressively from sin.

Ten: Consider praying: “Father, help me to turn aggressively from lust” as many times as it takes to keep stable.

11: Pray: “Father, help me to flee instantly from sin just like Joseph did.” You just can't pray that too much!

90% of our problems come from either – not enough passion for God's will, (David always had a huge passion), or from not running from sin like Joseph habitually did. Prayer increases our passion and Bible verses teach us to be ready to run like Joseph. When we add passion to a habit of running from lust, we might just change the world as Joseph did.

12: Turning instantly from looking at sinful things is a key to freedom. Turning instantly from thinking about anything that leads to addiction is vital. Turning instantly from negative emotions is a key to change.

Pray: “Father, take away my spirit of lust and help me to turn from worthless things.”

Pray: “Father, help me to turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word.” Turning our eyes preserves our lives.

Pray: “Father, help me to flee sexual immorality.” A great goal is to increase this skill daily.

Pray, “Father, take away my spirit of lust, and make my desire freedom.”

Pray, “Father, “Help me to study Your Word when I am tempted.” It is a powerful thing to study Bible verses that pertain to your habit.

To be habit free we should strive to always be thinking and working on something. This is vital because there is no neutral. Either we are improving or we will default to something bad. Eve was not praising God and focusing on exactly what He wanted when satan suggested the fatal apple. She was neutral, in a vacuum, open to ideas.
Instead, if we are working on a negative emotion to try to please God, we are in "drive" not in neutral. Pick the negative emotion you need to go to war with. Anger, anxiety, or any of a dozen other ones. Next, print out a bunch of verses on that emotion. Then pray, meditate, memorize and focus on these verses. Focusing on the Word puts us in overdrive.
Next, think about a good trait you want. I am meditating on verses about strength. If satan pops some temptation on me today, I know that I would be blowing my chances of gaining in strength if I listen to him for even one minute.
Second, my brother hates that I mute the TV during commercials when we watch the football game. But, I want to be praying or praising God. I never want to be in a vacuum while watching TV. Even more importantly, I pray urgently to turn aggressively from lust throughout normal TV shows.
Third, find things that inspire you to think and improve. Find some good Christian music videos or a Christian book to start your thinking in a good direction.
Last, memorize the fact that we are either hot or cold as Christians. There is no neutral. If you start sliding into a neutral state... panic because it will end badly. Then shift immediately into drive and get your mind back to thinking about productive Godly things.

Turning from lust is a top 5 habit we need to acquire in order to quit. I will be adding to that compilation in 1 week because it is such an important habit.

Second: 1 Chronicles 4 The Prayer of Jabez. “Oh that Thou wouldest bless me indeed and enlarge my borders, and that Thine hand might be with me and that Thou wouldest keep me from evil.”

This passage is about why God created each of us. To enlarge our borders is to help others, and to fulfill our purpose. I wrote recently about how we can't have a vacuum in our lives. That we must be hot or cold, there is no middle. If we are trying to live without finding a Christian purpose we are in the middle at best. Addiction thrives when we are in darkness. It also stays firmly rooted when we are in the middle. Consider praying:

“Father, show me what you want me to do.”

Satan tricks dedicated Christians by getting them busy. Too busy to do what God wants them to do. Consider praying:

“Father, show me what you want me to stop doing so that I can do what You want me to do.”

This is a 100% true fact. I only quit for good when I stopped doing certain (non-lust-related) things, so I had time to do what God wanted me to do.

Third, I am praying the above prayer of Jabez daily and meditating on it daily. Why? Because my life will be even better when this verse becomes even more true for me.

The prayer of Jabez is important for quitting, for finding purpose, and for getting out of the middle. Pray it, meditate on it, and quote it often.

Focus

Four great things to focus on every day.

We should focus on praying more to prepare for temptation.

Second: Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. We should focus more on righteousness.

Third: We should focus more on being in God's will. Consider praying:

“Father, show me what You want me to do.” Often.

Fourth: We should focus more on increasing overcoming lust skills. Have a time and a place to work on that every day. Consider spending a larger amount of time on that every day. Why? Because the rewards will be huge. When we increase our focus in these four areas:

“All these things shall be added unto you.”

Many focus on adding pleasure, money, stuff, success, and a million other things that don't fulfill us or bring us joy. Instead, focus on what God wants, and “All these things shall be added unto you.”

Vampire films were the rage 20-30 years ago. In the classic version, you had to invite the dark one in. When you were in your sealed house you were safe unless you invited the dark one in.

When we repent and have a plan for turning from lust we are sealed. But when we look and don't instantly turn from lust we have allowed the opening.

Every day in every situation we need to focus on keeping our house sealed. We have 2 great reasons for keeping it sealed. #1 to avoid the destruction. #2 to continue to seek an increased blessing in our lives.

Any sin weakens our seal. Sin... takes us away from God's joy and it forces us to chase fun and pleasure like some zombie in a classic film.

Meditating on scripture strengthens the seal. I am currently up to 12 verses that I meditate on every day in the morning.

Preparing for temptation with prayer strengthens the seal. I have worked so hard on learning the skill of praying, “Father, help me to turn from lust,” that now it is virtually automatic.

A full commitment strengthens the seal. We spend time in Bible study and prayer because of that commitment. We commit to spending a block of time every day at this site because of a full commitment to Christ.

Change always involves sacrifice. God always gives us more than we expect when we make that sacrifice permanently.

Why was David God's favorite instead of Joseph? Obviously, David's passion for God was the greatest passion ever. Consider praying:

“Father, increase my passion for You,” ten times per day every day this week.

Second, God knew that 98% of us were going to be like David. Struggling mightily with lust.

In His great love for us, He made David a very high-profile hero in the Bible. A hero who did later go to all-out war with his lust and who renewed his great relationship with God.

But Joseph was almost as high on the favorites list as David. In Deuteronomy 28 the Bible says that someone who obeys will be blessed when he is in, when he is out, basically always blessed. This chapter is talking about long-term obedience, consistent obedience, and God-fearing obedience.

Joseph had that obedience and he ended up as the 2nd most powerful man in the richest country in the world. Joseph focused on running from sin so often that it became automatic for him. Consider praying:

“Father, help me to double how often I pray to run from sin.” As often as it takes to make running from sin a habit.

David's life ended with victory, but with many sorrows. Joseph's life ended great.

If we learn to have a passion like David had, plus the habit of running from sin like Joseph had... life will become great.

To fight anxiety and depression we need to live “in today.” A lot of bad things happened to all of us in the past. Consider praying:

“Father, help me to forget the past, and help me to do Your will and enjoy Your presence today.”

Second, we can't spend time worrying about tomorrow. Consider praying:

“Father, Your Word says: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” Help me to focus on this verse. Help me not to worry.”

I wrote an article called Free Your Mind last week. In it, I suggested a number of things to think about instead of lust. Today I am suggesting adding anxiety and or depression to the sentence about thoughts (underlined). Here is the reworded paragraph:

“Wear a rubber band on your wrist and try these six ideas about what to say. Every time you have a lustful/anxious, or negative thought about the past, snap it and say: #1 “Father, Your ways are best.” On your next negative thought Pray: “Father, show me what to think about.” Thought #3 Say: I believe that pure thoughts will lead to a great life. #4 Pray: “Jesus, I thank you for the cross.” #5: Say three things you can give God thanks for. # 6 Pray: “Father, take away this spirit of lust/depression/anxiety and fill me with your love. #7 Quote Scripture.

Every time you have a lustful/anxious, or negative thought about the future, snap it and go through the list again.”

Today, consider writing a few of your own Christian ideas about what to think about. Then add what you should be thinking about to live “for today.” Whenever you have a negative thought “snap it” and think about what is important today, or something to think about from the Free Your Mind article, or from your list.

The fantastic goal is to develop the habit of avoiding thinking compulsively about the past or worrying compulsively about the future. Instead, compulsively, work on solving these two problems Jesus' way.

14 months ago I suspected that porn caused destruction and led to problems and frustrations. These thoughts led me to think when tempted, “Falling will ruin my day, prob my week, prob my month.”

Then over the next few falls, I realized... I was now a prophet (lol). That was exactly what was happening. Suddenly “I knew” that porn caused destruction and led to problems and frustration. “I knew” what the “Wages of sin is death” was talking about. “I knew” what would happen if I fell again.

One day I had a huge stack of excuses for falling. But “I knew” the results and I wanted to try things God's way. I got busy trying to do something for God.

When we commit to a war against sin someday we will “know it.”

When we commit to learning the habit of turning aggressively from lust someday we will “know it.”

When we commit to praying about being in God's will, someday we will “know it.”

When we do these things, joy and purpose will start to flow.

Yesterday I attended my daughter's high school volleyball tournament. At this event maybe half of the men there certainly were staring incessantly at certain high school hotties. Some of those men were just consistently looking, not straying into full sinful thoughts. So the question is, why do they keep falling later?

Second, we are watching TV and some hottie is wearing shorts. Some men's eyes stray about 99 times to those legs while attempting to watch the show. I could write about this same exact behavior at the beach and at 100 different places.

I will list four reasons why staring is a problem. #1 it is the opposite of praying without ceasing. #2 it is the exact opposite of worshipping God. #3 it is the exact opposite of praising God. BJU noted: “We are commanded to praise the Lord thirteen times in these six verses. Praising God is not an option; it is an obligation. It is both our delight and our duty. The greatest truth about God is that He is worthy of our praise, and the deepest truth about ourselves is that we have been created to praise Him.” Praising the Lord is a great tool to use for fighting lustful thoughts. #4 If one keeps staring at hottie's body parts they will flunk the upcoming test.

The upcoming test is... that hottie you see that may cause you to fall into lust. Or, that hottie on TV that is about to show way too much. If you kept staring all week at just about everything... how in the world do you think you can now turn it off or fast forward? In that case, one has already fallen before they fell.

Instead of staring incessantly, we can choose to be working on increasing how much we pray without ceasing, praising, and worshiping. Before you are in your next tempting session, prepare. Take one of these three things, do a Google search, and make a printout of what you are going to do instead of staring.

For example: Increasing in love is a great Christian thing to do. To prepare to break the habit of staring one might print out:

1 Corinthians 16:14 ESV Let all that you do be done in love.

1 John 4:8 ESV Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

1 Peter 4:8 ESV Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.
Now, when you find yourself tempted to stare yet again, read a verse. Repeat, repeat, repeat.

Next, consider doing a Google search and making printouts of the traits from paragraph three. Repeat, repeat, repeat.

Job 31:1 ESV “I have made a covenant with my eyes; how then could I gaze at a virgin?”

Job never says “gaze with lust” he just says he made a covenant not to stare. If we make a “Covenant with our eyes,” and keep it, we will rarely “Fall before we fall.”

Yesterday I gave 6 ideas (with 3 verses on love) of things to do instead of staring. Why? Because I need to improve as a Christian so that I can help others. I need to be more filled with Jesus' love. Today I am thinking more about working on improving in love than I am obsessed with lust. That's good.

What we are starting to do is just as important as the things we need to stop doing. Plus it is easier to stop the bad things when we are busy doing good things.

Second, what is the result of men staring incessantly at women? Are they increasing their pleasure? They got to stare, I didn't. They had pleasure from staring, I didn't.

But we have to finish the math problem. Falling (brought on by incessant staring) will bring them destruction. They got to experience destruction, I didn't.

When I was at the volleyball tournament I was determined to stay on the straight and narrow. Determined to keep my purpose, and praise and worship God as best as I could. I was 100% content at the event and I have been content with life all week. I had joy at the tournament (even though my team went 2 wins vs 7 losses) and my joy has been with me all week.

Last, when we work on spiritual things to help us stop bad habits we start to experience a bit of an increase in joy. Quite frankly, many people need to find that bit of joy today so that they can experience an increase in God's light in their lives. Once you start to experience that, you can then focus on increasing that light just as much as you focus on stopping.

What starts you down that slippery path? Take yesterday's 6 ideas and choose some to take to war with that trigger. That is a good way to get in full fight mode before that trigger overwhelms you.

We need to know what emotion plagues us and/or eventually leads to disaster. Today I will give out three prayers, but it is wise to copy and paste the article into a Google doc or Word file so that you can change the prayer to exactly the issue that sinks you.

For anger, consider praying:

“Father, take away this spirit of anger, and fill me with Your love.”

But, your #1 issue may be Hopelessness, Anxiety, Emptiness; Frustration; Inadequacy; Helplessness; Fear; Guilt; Loneliness; Depression; Overwhelmed; Resentment; Failure; Sadness; Jealousy, or something else.

So if anger is not an issue for you, take your #1 issue and delete anger from the list and insert your emotion. The key point is to be able to take an article about loneliness and see if you can change a few prayers or things to think about so that they can apply to say – guilt.

Second, consider praying:

“Father, take away my spirit of lust, and help me with my feeling of hopelessness.”

This is a powerful prayer because the first half is exactly what God wants, and the second half is our desire. Consider changing the last word of the prayer to the emotion that plagues you.

Third, add power to your prayer. Power is added when we fully repent before we pray and when we fully commit our lives to Christ.

Forth, pray your prayer every hour. But with every prayer, we must remember to be 100% sincere, and 100% dedicated to change. When I prayed, “Father, help me to turn aggressively from sin,” for the 3000th time, I was just as sincere and dedicated to change as I was the first time I prayed it.

Last, you could easily find 80 prayers in my articles. Feel free to pray them as written, but also feel free to change the key emotion to the one that plagues you.

Negative emotions drag us down, down, down. Instead, attack, attack, and attack with prayer.

  • We were created to love and worship God. I added Christian ideas to the first five activity suggestions so that we have something to do, and so that we are loving and worshipping God.

    Activities

  • Learning a new instrument so you can play Christian music

  • Photography – It allows you space to practice praising the Lord

  • Reading Christian books

  • Volunteering at Christian places

  • Music writing of Christian songs

  • Drawing

  • Martial arts

  • Learning a new language

Last, one of the greatest ways to worship God is by fulfilling our purpose. To find new books on purpose simply write “Christian purpose” in the Amazon search. You can read books like God's purpose for your life: 365 Devotions by Charles Stanley , or What the Bible Says about Addiction, or the Purpose Driven Life, or take your pick of many others.

Getting active is good, getting active in a way that grows our Christianity is great and it will start the change the way we think. Thinking right is the first step towards living right.

Quitting is very hard if we still love to look or fantasize. Satan will constantly tell you to do that, and looking is ruining millions of Christians daily. Consider praying:

“Father, take away my love of lust.” 5 times daily.

Second, we study verses about lust when we have intense direct temptation. But when we notice that we are loving the world and its lusts too much, roll out those same verses. God's Words will straighten you out.

Third, the Bible says in 1 John 2:

15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”

I should memorize verse 15.

16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever.”

Fourth, be intentional about loving God instead of the world. Consider praying:

“Father, take away my love of the world and help me love You.”

Finally, the Bible says, “He that keepeth my commandments is he that loveth me.”

Consider praying:

“Father, help me to go to war with sin.”

Sin makes us love the world, and it brings us back to lust. Increasing our love of God decreases our love of the world, and it starts us towards a path of freedom, and joy.

Ten months ago I started this thread. Today I still think that the # 1 tip is to follow Jesus example by fighting temptation with Bible verses. But I have changed my opinion about what the 2nd most important skill is. Today, I say that the # 2 is developing the habit of turning from lust. I started to realize a few months ago that in the past satan would tempt me, and I would stare just enough to ensure that I would fall sooner or later.

I still work at instantly turning, constantly.

Second, I am keeping positive addictions and alternate activities high on the list, but I will add that making some of them into Christian activities adds power to them.

Third, I will move prayer to #3 on the list because it is the key to preparing for temptation. But when temptation overwhelms us it is wise to go to tip #1.

Fourth, I now think tip #8 should be 2 or 3 higher in importance. #8 says to fill up a journal with key tips. I need to know my weaknesses, know what sinks me, and know what I should spend time on each day.

Fifth, I will add working incessantly to find your purpose, because that was a huge key to my quitting for good.

Last, I will add one more tip into the top ten. We get dejected or despondent and use the “life is too hard,” excuse to fall. If you want your future to be the same as your past, use that excuse. If you want a great life say, “I will not allow self-pity to lead me down the road to destruction again.” Then get busy working on finding a great life.

Finally, this is not a perfect list. Pray and think often about what should be on your top ten list. When you quit for good... you will then know that you have a top 10 list that worked for you.

For many people, life runs them over leaving them in despair. If we don't run to Christ in times like these, despair will lead to depression, which usually leads to a fall.

When life runs us over we can obey the Bible and 16 “Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

But until we make that a habit we need to learn to deal with despair. Step #1 is to do a Google search of verses about despair:

Psalm 34:17-20 ESV
When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”

When in despair, read this every hour.

2 Corinthians 4:8-9 ESV
We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;

When in despair, read this every hour.

1 Peter 5:7 ESV
Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”

Consider praying: “Father, show me what to think about today.”

1 Corinthians 10:13 ESV
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation, he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”

If we always keep our eyes and thoughts on scripture during despair and temptation, then, this verse is always true.

Romans 15:13 ESV
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”

When in despair, read this every hour.

Psalm 91:1-16 ESV
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

Jeremiah 29:11 ESV
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

Consider praying: “Father, I believe that You will give me a future and a hope.”

Psalm 23:1-6 ESV
A Psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. …

When in despair, meditate on this often.

Psalm 55:22 ESV /
Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.

When in despair, read this every hour.

Psalm 43:5 ESV
Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.

2 Corinthians 1:3-5 ESV
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ's sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.

Consider praying: “Father, help me today. Teach me how to handle this situation. Show me how to learn so that I can someday help others.”

The power of the Holy Spirit fills us as we study these verses. When we pray and are filled with that power, then Psalm 23 becomes real to us.

Psychology recommends charting what you do every hour of your week. This article is loosely based on information from this link at Psychologytools.

Simply use something like a Google calendar and write in what activity you do during every free hour. Then, at the end of the week review how each activity made you feel and what caused increased temptation. Then, slowly start to replace activities that bring you down, tempt you, or are passive and replace them with better activities.

Unless you are 18 don't change from sitting in front of the TV 7 days a week with 7 days of going out. You will be exhausted. But slowly, start making positive changes. Start adding physical activities, and hobbies. Start adding spiritual activities.

Feel free to plan a bunch of changes, but especially with physical ones – start slowly and work your way up.

Charting forces you to learn exactly what you are doing that is causing issues. This method will show you which days are causing a spike in temptation. What activities during which hours are causing a spike in temptation? Show you what activities make you feel bad, which then lowers your determination.

Once you have your information you can print out articles about which activities would be great replacements for the negative ones. Then pray about what you should stop doing and what you should start doing.

Bad activities cause traps. We will fall into them. Good activities lead to strength and the power to win.

Stress leads to porn. Then porn often leads to relationship issues, destruction, and more stress. Consider praying: “Father, remind me to turn to You when I have stress.” Consider praying this often if stress is often a trigger for you.

Matthew 11:28-30 ESV
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

When stress is crushing you, read and pray over this every hour.

Matthew 6:34 ESV
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Consider praying: “Father, help me to not be overwhelmed. I give control of my emotions to You. I will spend time with You and with Your Word.”

Philippians 4:6 ESV
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”

Pray about your stress. Spend 90% of your prayers on asking for Jesus to help you through your stress. Spend 10% asking for Him to take it away.

John 14:27 ESV
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”

When stress is crushing you, read and pray over this every hour.

Psalm 55:22 ESV
Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.

Consider memorizing this verse.

James 1:12 ESV

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial.”

When stress causes us to give up... we know all about the bad results. When we dig into these verses we will start down a road toward blessing and success.

If temptation continues after you study these verses use the verses for quitting.

The Bible says in 2nd Timothy 3 that in the last days “People will be lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. Satan's trick is to convince us that we will have less pleasure if we do things God's way. But the Bible says:

Psalm 16:11 ESV “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

Satan's trick is to tell us it is okay to be sloppy with devotions, short with prayer, and to get tired of praising God and giving thanks. Because he knows that when we lose our fire which leads to God's joy, he has a chance.

Memorize Psalm 16:11 so that you will always be aware of what is going on. If I don't pray enough, I will miss out on the beginning of fullness of joy and the start of pleasures forevermore. If I don't focus on verses about lust and focus on daily Bible reading, I will miss out on the beginning of fullness of joy and the start of pleasures forevermore. If I don't pray about and/or try to do something good for God, I will miss out on the beginning of fullness of joy and the start of pleasures forevermore.

Today, you may be a bit burnt out on trying to achieve your list of things that you want to change, based on articles on this site. Today, you may think... I am missing out on lots of pleasure and fun. But as you live this verse, and continue to be on fire for Jesus Christ, you will see that satan is just trying to trick you again with his short-term pleasures that lead to destruction.

Instead, when you live an on-fire life for Christ, you will be starting down a path where you will see the beginings of fullness of joy and the start of pleasures forevermore. Consider praying:

“Father, make known to me the path of life.”

When I was young I looked at sin as something I wasn't supposed to do. Today, I realize that God created me with a purpose in mind. Am I supposed to be worshiping and praising God? Should I be praying about helping others? Should I be doing good works?

What does God want us to do? Consider praying:

“Father, show me the plans that You have for me.”

Genesis 39:9 “How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”

When our lives lack purpose one sin seems like a simple negative. Then sin multiplies until it ruins us.

It is wise to consider one sin a great wickedness. It is wise to consider one look at sinful things as sin against God.

When we have wisdom, we avoid the trap. We stay free to be the shining light that God wants us to be. Consider praying:

“Father, give me the courage to be a shining light for You.”

Finally, today I look at sin as something that will cause destruction and keep me from joy.

Consider praying: “Father, show me the full destruction of sin?”

Consider praying: “Father, help me to hate sin.”

It is wise to love God and hate sin so that your life is filled with light.

Jesus is a spectacular light. Always work on the habit of running from sin so that He can shine through you.
