Quotes from the wisest man to ever live:

Proverbs 4:25 Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.”

Wisdom says to not even look in the first place.

Proverbs 5:3 “For the lips of an immoral woman drip honey and her speech is smoother than oil 4 but in the end, she is bitter as gall, sharp as a double-edged sword.” Consider praying: “Father, help me to understand the bitterness that looking with lust causes.”
5 Her feet go down to death; her steps lead straight to the grave.”
Porn kills joy.

8 Keep to a path far from her, do not go near the door of her house.”
Consider saying: I am seeking joy and pleasure from Almighty God. I will always be making a plan to not even go near to lust.

Proverbs 6:25 ESV
Do not desire her beauty in your heart, and do not let her capture you with her eyelashes.”

I developed a habit of rejecting all actresses who are not modestly dressed. Consider praying:

“Father, show me the destruction that “she” will cause me.”

If this is an issue for you, consider memorizing Proverbs 6:25.

Proverbs 4:23 ESV
Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.

I am adding the above verse to the verses I meditate on daily.

Galatians 6:8 ESV For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.”

What becomes corrupt for you because of lust? Solomon, because of his lust, turned from the true God and got caught up in putting other gods before Him. David's corruption led to him becoming a murderer. Write out a list of things that become corrupt for you because of lust. Every time you start to think about lust, stop. Instead, think about those things that become corrupt for you.

Proverbs 21:17 ESV
Whoever loves pleasure will be a poor man.”

Consider praying: “Father, take away my love of pleasure.”

Consider praying: “Father, help me to love and help people more than I love pleasure.”

A love of pleasure leads to temptation. A love of God leads to freedom.

1 Corinthians 9:27 ESV
But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.”

Some people read their Bible and pray daily. Then they come to NoFap for 20-30 minutes daily. That is disciplining the body.

1 Timothy 5:6 ESV

But she who is self-indulgent is dead even while she lives.”

Pray about purpose and always fight wanting more, looking at more, and anything else in excess.

She who is dedicated to Christ is abundantly alive, even in hard times.

I have added 1 Timothy 5:6 to the list of verses that I meditate on.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 ESV

Love

Does not insist on its own way;” Instead of getting upset if I don't get my way... I can decrease temptation (DT) by praying to increase in love.

It is not irritable or resentful;” When I start down this road, I can decrease temptation (DT) by starting to praise God and praying for more love.

Love bears all things,” I can (DT) by trying to carry, suffer or endure all things.

Hopes all things,” God will help us. I can (DT) by my belief and hope. I believe God will help me and I will wait patiently until it happens.

1 Corinthians 16:14 ESV
“Let all that you do be done in love.”

Quote this every hour.

1 John 4:8 ESV
Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

Consider meditating on 1 Corinthians 13 often to increase in love.

1 Peter 4:8 ESV
Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.

Loving others means less trouble which means less temptation.

John 14 ESV
15
If ye love me, keep my commandments.

16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever.”

When we break the commandments we think we have gotten something. The truth is... When we keep the commandments, we start to get everything, including the great presence of the Holy Spirit.

All dedicated Christians have a level of availability to do what God needs to be done. 10%, 35%, 65%, 95%, or 100%. When we have a high level of availability, the power of the Holy Spirit starts to be with us.

Satan will explain to us how other things are important, and how we can't do everything that God wants us to do. Another lie.

The more we do what God needs to be done, the better our lives become. Consider praying:

“Father, show me how to be available for You.”

1 John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

Consider praying: “Father, take away my love for the world.”

Pray and study about being filled with the Holy Spirit. It can be a life-changing experience.

Godly Exercise

Print out 5 great verses that you should be thinking about and bring them to your exercise. Exercise (Start slowly, then work your way up) is proven to help with depression. Pick your 5 verses based on your greatest need. Anxiety, courage, quitting habits, overcoming, or any of a million other things. Just put “verses anger” (insert what you need) into Google and open Bible will have a list for you.

When we get moving plus get the Word in us, life improves.

Mark Shaw in Heart of Addiction wrote: “Our beliefs are feelings oriented not thought oriented. We want, then we act. God designed us to think and then act. Acting on emotions is perishing thinking, but when we think, obey, then act we learn how to have God's joyful thinking.”

I am adding the section, “Think, obey, then act,” to the verses for quitting page. Write down 4 ways that you can make it a habit to study these verses when you are beaten down, criticized, run over, abused, and basically trashed in life.

Getting beat up in life happens all the time. But, we will start to have a great life if we make it a habit to run to scripture instead of running to lust.

Verses about lust force you to think, push you to obey, and tell you how to act.

I am always pounding scripture into me to get me to “think right.” When I start thinking right obeying makes perfect sense.

Mark also wrote: “Forgiveness is not optional, it is a command from God.”

Forgiveness starts the process of God's light filling our lives. Anger gives satan permission to work us over. Holding a grudge leads to depression. Consider praying: “Father, help me to forgive.”

Finally, start moving, forgiving, and building the habit of thinking, obeying, then acting.

I live in Michigan and am a fan of the Detroit Lions. They have a receiver (Brown) who catches 202 passes daily. He does this because he heard that great receivers catch 200 balls daily. He decided to do just a little bit more (202). He is a star and has helped turn the Lions around. He knows what it takes to get what he wants and he does what it takes to do it.

Many come to NoFap and read articles. Some go a step further and print out articles. Some set up notes in key places to remind them to do the new things that they have learned to do at NoFap. Some write out their top 15 skills for quitting and then pray over them all the time.

Others just try to implement one or two important skills at a time, but they make doing them a huge priority. They do these skills until they are habits. Habits they then do always until the end of time.

What if you find out what you need to do to quit, and then just do a little bit more than that?

When something bad happens, sometimes people use that as an excuse to live the way they want to live (sin). In the past I used to think thoughts like:

1 God is not giving me a fair shake

2 How could God let this happen

3 This is way too much to handle

4 Everybody is against me

5 My life always goes bad

6 Why did God let this happen

Should we ever think of any of these things or anything even close to these thoughts? Never! The Bible tells us what we should be thinking about: Things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

If we think wrong we will (99%) do wrong.

How To Think Right

Consider, copying and pasting new things to think about based on NoFap articles, Bible articles, sermons, etc. Have a file of things you should be thinking about. When you start thinking wrong, grab that file every time. At some point, you will start to make it a habit to think right. If you think right, you will do right.

One trait that all people with addictions have is that we sometimes have the habit of giving up. Work is harsh, relationships stink, money is elsewhere and a list of a million other problems get us down. So we tell ourselves that we have the right to go back to our addiction. We can’t fight back anymore.

One of the reasons I recommend daily Bible reading is because of people from the Bible like Paul. His reaction to problems was the opposite of ours – he never gave up. He always fought to the end. When he was whipped and put in chains he praised God and sang so heartily that God just couldn’t resist breaking him out of jail. He was stoned (at that time in history sometimes groups of people would throw large stones continuously at someone to kill them. 2 Corinthians 11:27 talks about Paul’s tribulations: In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.

Instead of giving up, Paul always had the habit of fighting through problems. Develop the habit of never giving up and of fighting through problems. Consider praying:

“Father, show me why I need to be tough like Paul was.” Or:

“Father, help me to be tough like Paul was.” Every hour.

What would happen to a person who is going through a trial, who decides to praise the Lord 500 times today, and put on some great Christian videos so that they could sing to the Lord as Paul did?

They would be shocked by the fact that they are now just a little bit like Paul was. And, they will be shocked by how their life will be in the future if they keep on fighting.

It takes time to develop the habit of turning from lust, but you can do it. One verse that helped me was Proverbs 28:1 The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion. One of my goals this year is to become bold and courageous, so I am currently focusing on that verse. In order to be bold as a lion I must be righteous. So I have doubled my focus on going to war with sin. The more we focus on going to war with sin the more we will realize that turning from lust is one of the smartest goals we can have.

In this Christmas season, part of righteousness is focusing on loving others. Consider printing out 1st Corinthians 13 to help with a focus on love.

4 Love is patient, love is kind, it is not jealous; love does not brag, it is not arrogant. 5 It does not act disgracefully, it does not seek its own benefit; it is not provoked, does not keep an account of a wrong suffered, 6 it does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7 it [b]keeps every confidence, it believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Merry Christmas

Over the last few weeks, I have written articles on various topics. In the article “No Cheating I recommended praying, “Father, help me to raise the standards in turning from lust.”

In the article “Triggers I recommended several prayers to prepare for temptation. In the article Snap It I gave 6 idea's about what to think about when we have a lustful thought.

The point of this article is not to review old articles. The point is to take a look at what we actually “do” in our efforts to change. If we aren't fanatical in planning to “do” something from an article, odds are we won't do what it says for long.

Plan What To Do

Consider putting notes everywhere to remind you “To Do” what an article advises. Written notes, sticky notes, notes in code, etc. At work put PTL for praise the Lord, or RFL for run from lust.

Take notes on 3 by 5 cards which you can take with you or use anywhere.

Spend a block of time praying over your notes, or printouts of articles.

Pray about turning aggressively from lust in advance, and often.

Write out 4 reasons that you want to quit. Review them often. Things like, I want to fulfil my purpose, I want to live in the light because I hate the darkness, I am sick of satan ruining my life.

Have a time in the evening to review how well the “plan” was achieved. To see how it could be improved.

Your daily plan should include more things from old articles than from new ones. What are your most vital habits that you need to form?

When is temptation most severe. Write down which articles will really help. The more you take notes about which articles help with what situations, the better it will be.

Believe that you can start to be filled with joy. Psalm 51:12 ESV

Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.”

Jesus says that your life can be great. Believe it.

Many people decide that they will now do good activities, but then reality happens. We just get busy, or we just forget.

Try connecting the articles you need to review, and the scriptures you need to review for overcoming lust, with an activity you do every day. For example, you have decided to make turning from lust a habit. The only problem is, you only remembered that goal 3 times in the last 6 days.

Find something you do daily. I drink coffee. In this example, I would study a printout of the Turn From Lust article every time I drink coffee.

Second, every time you turn on the TV pick up your printout of the Verses for Quitting. Read a few of them before you watch anything. A great added benefit is that now your printout is right on your lap if you start to get overwhelmed.

Third, we all brush our teeth. Start your habit of praising the Lord every time you brush.

Forth, we all have some emotions we struggle we. Your struggle may be with anger, anxiety, or anything else. We should all be consistently looking up Bible verses on Google on the topic we struggle with.

To connect, write your 3 fav Bible verses about that emotion on a 3 by 5 card and carry it with you. Every time that emotion pops up, read some verses. Keep in mind that this helps with a lust addiction because scripture in - starts to get lust out.

You can use 3 by 5 cards with verses about lust in the same way.

Last, take 10 minutes to think about the habit you want to form, and what activity you can connect your new habit with until it becomes a habit.

A few simple notes are all it takes to get this “connect” system started.

A new movie or show comes out. You are sure it is total garbage (smut). But... there is this beautiful woman in it, and you really like her.

The problem is, you are seeing what satan wants you to see instead of what you are actually seeing. The Bible says in Ephesians 6: 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

We are wrestling against looking and against clicking on this show/movie. But if you think you are wrestling against looking at her beauty (flesh and blood) instead of against “principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places,” then you may very well be fooled.

Instead, it is wise to think about her the way this verse describes her.
devilish-woman-appears-from-dark-and-kisses.jpg

Consider praying:

“Father, show me what I am really fighting against.”

Second, 1 Corinthians 3 says 16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? 17 If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.”

What are the number 1 and number 2 habits that you need to form in order to keep God's temple sacred in the future? Consider spending a block of time today looking up, “How to form habits” on Google. Or, review old articles about habits so that you can form them in a more Godly manner.

From now on consider praying, “Father, show me what I am really seeing,” when considering a show or a movie that seems sinful.

From now on, see what satan is showing you from God's perspective, not satan's.

Planning and understanding are keys to self-control.

Planning

How complete is your plan to turn from lust? Do you have a foolproof plan to immediately dig into the verses for quitting if temptation starts to overwhelm you? Do you have a plan to reverse the effect of negative emotions, if they are about to sink you?

Self-control involves understanding. Wisdom wants long-term joy, satan will tempt you with short-term pleasure. Wisdom wants peace, and love, satan will tempt you with power and lust. Wisdom insists on thinking, obeying, then acting, satan wants you to “want, then act.” Wisdom wants to know what God's will is, satan wants you to “get what you want with no thought of consequences.”

Plan – understand – succeed.

Many have accepted Christ, but does the Bible ask us to have a full commitment to living in His will? Many have committed to quitting porn. But does God expect us to make a full commitment to spending enough time each day fighting it?

Before you get too mad at me, understand, I am fully aware that quite a few people have made a large commitment to quitting, and I believe that you will make it.

Psalm 37:5 ESV
Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.”

We want God to act. Study this verse daily if you want Him to act.

Proverbs 16:3 ESV
Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”

Recently I wrote about planning. This verse tells us how to get our plans to work.

2 Timothy 4:7 ESV
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

Galatians 6:9 ESV
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”

Commit to doing good if you want to reap freedom.

Proverbs 18:1 ESV
Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire; he breaks out against all sound judgment.

Deuteronomy 6:5 ESV
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”

Commit to loving God.

Jeremiah 29:11 ESV
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

This is a great promise to people who commit to obedience.

Romans 12:1-2 ESV / 65 helpful votes
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Consider memorizing and meditating on this verse often.

Consider praying: “Father, help me to commit to following this verse.”

Consider having a commitment to a time to work on quitting daily.

Think about a commitment to a time to pray daily.

Consider having a commitment to a time to read the Bible daily

Think about a commitment to a time to pray about purpose daily

Commit - Fight – Win.

When we feel hopless we need to remember that Jesus is always looking for people who are available.

Romans 15:13 ESV

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

The Holy Spirit gives us hope. Focus on being filled to increase in hope.

Psalm 34:17-20
ESV

When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.”

Look at the great things God has for the righteous. Memorize this verse to inspire yourself to live the way God wants you to live.

Jeremiah 29:11 ESV

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

Refuse to give up. Keep your faith. The Bible always is eventually 100% true for those who keep fighting.

Today, consider saying every hour: “I will keep fighting.”

Isaiah 40:31 ESV

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

A block of prayer gives strength. Repent, pray, then believe this verse.

James 5:13 ESV

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.

Start with prayer, then work on the habit of praising the Lord.

These verses force us to turn our eyes to Jesus. Dig in to what He offers and renew your hope.

Romans 12:9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.

Consider praying every hour:

“Father, hate me hate evil.”

Over the last year, I have suggested praying, “Father, help me to turn aggressively from sin,” or “Father, help me to turn from lust” several times. But when I suggest praying these prayers every hour, I know that it is hard to make this a habit.

Second, I prayed prayers like these thousands of times before I quit for good. But, when I would still fall I never considered my new habit to be in error. I just still knew that I was missing something. The key point is... praying to turn from lust is one of the top 5 habits we can acquire to quit.

The next key point is when we pray the prayer. Yes, every hour, but, most importantly, we pray it when we turn on a TV show (or go somewhere) that may be risky. Pray this prayer often, and sincerely at these key times. Prayer prepares us for temptation, then we turn to key verses from the Word when we are under severe temptation.

Tips for Forming Habits

We need a cue to remind us to pray. Like an alarm every hour. When I start to watch TV, that is a cue for me. A location or a note can be a cue.

Inspire yourself by writing down the number of days you plan to pray this way. Keep track of your success daily in a notebook. Place the notebook in a place where you always will see it.

Consider praying for 10 or 15 minutes about how to acquire this habit, both today and tomorrow.

Last, many will still do it for a day or two and totally forget again. Don't be upset when you think of it 4 days later. Instead, paste 20 sticky notes everywhere with a big T on them to remind you to do it like clockwork.

Yes, it is that important. Daniel ran from lust automatically because he had formed the habit of running from lust. This is a habit you can learn.

Jesus' fire fights addiction. To increase the fire meditate on love. Consider praying:

“Father, take away my spirit of lust and fill me with a Spirit of love.”

I am currently meditating and praying daily about verses on love. The Bible says, “love is patient,” so I read that and pray, “Father, help me to be patient. The Bible says, “love is kind,” so I read that and pray, “Father, help me to be kind.”

The Corinthians passage about love continues. “It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails.”

I pray about each section of this passage daily to increase in love. Why? Because 1 John 4:16 reads: 16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.”

If God is fully in us we will never need porn again. While quitting is more complicated than that, we can be confident that increasing in love increases how much God is in us. The more God is in us the easier it will be to quit for good.

Benefits of Love

1. Love helps us to live in the light.

  1. Love builds up people who are around you. It makes us more popular. If you have more friends and support, could you quit easier?
3. Freedom from fear. (1 John 4:18 NKJV) “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.”

  1. Our minds have only a finite amount of space. The more we fill it with thoughts of love, the less room there will be remaining for bad thoughts.

  2. Love increases the Spirit of the Lord in us. The more we increase it, the more He will fight lust for us.

Consider meditating and praying over verses about love daily.

Many Christians read scripture to fight porn. But, we show how much dedication to Christ we have based on the timing of when we study key verses.

Reading scripture daily is needed, but if we fall anyways, the power of that scripture becomes a 1 rating based on a system of 1-10 with 10 being best. Obviously, the point is not to stop daily scripture reading. The point is to strive to make sure that it continues in power over the course of the whole day.

For example, you are working on turning from lust. Then life runs you over again. Temptation rears its ugly head. You know you are 85% of the way to falling.

Background: The Bible says that Paul had a weakness. It was likely some physical weakness. But for this example let's assume that he was struggling with a porn addiction (very unlikely).

Paul would surely read scripture daily and consistently. But let's assume that Paul got down when his missionary partner let him down (his partner did let him down). Let's assume he was tempted with lust at that point.

But, let's stop this silly example. Paul was 100% aware of what the Bible said about lust. The problem is, we are not. So if in crazy land, if Paul was an addict he would study verses about lust at the point of temptation so that he understood the depth of it and the destruction it causes. He would study verses on lust every time he had severe temptation. He would study until he was 100% aware of what the Bible says about lust. Paul would know that studying key scriptures about lust at the point of temptation is something that a person with a high degree of dedication to Christ would do! Because that is what Christ showed us to do when He was tempted.

We are not 100% aware of what God says about lust. We should be. It would make our lives better.

Do you want a better life?

To fight frustration, study how to be content.

Philippians 4:11-13 ESV

Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

Consider praying: “Father, take away this spirit of lust, and help me to be content.”

Hebrews 13:5 ESV
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

If money causes you to fall, read this often.

1 Timothy 6:6-8 ESV
But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.”

There are two things listed to do to have great gain. Study this verse and consider praying: “Father, help me to focus on godliness with contentment.”

2 Corinthians 12:10 ESV
For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Psalm 37:16 ESV
Better is the little that the righteous has than the abundance of many wicked.”

We have peace and a calm life when we live life God's way.

Psalm 16:11 ESV
You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Prayers for contentment are prayers to know the path of life. I need nothing but the presence of God.

Finally, what 3 things are you not content with that you should learn to be content with? When we live life upset at jobs, parents, spouses, and neighbors, (I could list a million things), satan takes that opening and uses discontentment against us to get us thinking about lust.

Study these verses regularly, and pray often about “what, or who” you need to be content with. Pray often to be content with your current situation.

Finding contentment takes away one of Satan's favorite weapons.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 ESV
For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.”

Our Weapons

Ephesians 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;”

Truth: It is vital to read key Bible verses and believe them as written. Read each verse as truth. Reading the Bible in truth allows the Holy Spirit to change you.

Meditate on key truths. Consider praying: “Holy Spirit, help me to understand Your truth in the scriptures.”

Righteousness

Going to war with sin is a powerful Spiritual weapon. Praying about turning from lust is vital preparation for the battle.

Consider praying: “Father, help me to run from lust, and show me how to put on Your armor.

Study spiritual armor, then put it on. Be ready for the fight.
