THE BEST SPIRITUAL WAY TO FIGHT TEMPTATION

Psalm 16 says “At thy right hand there are pleasures forevermore.” One meaning of this is that when we consistently do things Gods way we start to be in His favor (blessings).

Matthew 5:6
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” Consider praying:

“Father, help me to hunger and thirst for righteousness.”

God wants us to avoid satan's pleasures and have His pleasures. Consider memorizing this verse and connecting it to righteous pleasures.

Psalm 84:11 ESV
For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.

Proverbs 10:22 ESV
The blessing of the Lord makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.

Isaiah 40:31 ESV
But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

Pray, pray, and then pray some more, and this verse will start to come true for you.

Second, church leaders hesitate to talk about God's blessing because we often receive it about 60 days after we give up trying for it. It always starts to happen for those who never give up, but it is often elusive for those who are running a test to see what God will do.

Third, His blessing is often greater than what we think. But... it is often different than what we ask for.

Finally, study, meditate, and pray over Matthew 5 for more information on how “At thy right hand there are pleasures forevermore.”

Search for God's pleasures, it is great for breaking habits.

Billy lived a blessed life. His awesome dad had encouraged him to be a follower of Christ. He not only told him to obey, but he also told him why. He not only told him to pray but he also taught him how to pray about fighting against sin, and about caring about souls.

Billy always did what his father had taught him to do. That is, he did it, right up until the day of the incident.

One Friday Billy had Jonny on his team in gym class. Jonny broke all the rules and he had a joke every minute. That day Billy changed his habit of sitting with his Christian buddies. He sat with Jonny at lunch. Jonny had a million stories, and with every situation, Jonny made it clear that he broke all the rules and that he had fun doing it.

At home the next day Billy decided to live life Jonny's way. He grabbed some loose bills that weren't his, and he went shopping. He watched TV shows that were “highly discouraged” in “dad's” house. To top it off he stared “looking” at stuff on his computer. As he completely crossed the line he remembered dad's words. 'If you open Pandor's box, satan will show you some fun stuff, but after some cheap thrills, you will get to see his true self.”

Two hours later Billy thought, wow, my dad was wrong about a lot of things. This is fun.

Later that night Billy went to bed, but he could not sleep. He had always been proud of the fact that he did not need a night light in his room. But tonight something was very different. It felt very dark and he felt very uncomfortable.

He normally prayed as he drifted off, but on this night he just felt dark, bad, and lonely.

Suddenly he realized, yesterday he had a great life. It was filled with light and joy. Just three days ago he felt like he was starting to find his purpose because he had helped his buddy Fred get back on track with a couple of prayer ideas.

But now... emptiness. Dad had said, satan advertises a great program, but you won't like him much once he gets his claws into you.

Billy repented and went on to live a vibrant Christian life. Why? Because when he compared his dark new life with his old vibrant life he knew the truth. Satan had lied to him, while Jesus had given him everything.

Today, see how many ways you can do things God's way. See how much light you can fill your life up with. Why? Because when you are in that condition you will be more likely to dig into the verses for quitting, and you will start to see prayer working more quickly.

Don't just quit. Quit and live a vibrant Christian life.

“George, how are you?”

“Okay, but I am still struggling.”

“Have you tried going to the verses about lust when tempted?”

“Yeah, but not lately. Those verses upset me. I am praying a lot of the prayers you gave me though.”

“That is good. My guess is that the lust verses upset you because you are doing a lot of bouncing back and forth from good to bad.”

“That is for sure.”

“I think if you make some small adjustments to your prayers, that will put you in a better position to go to the verses when tempted. For example, we can pray:

“Father, take away my spirit of lust, and help me to run from sin.” A great prayer when prayed sincerely with an intense desire to change. But let's examine a deeper prayer that we can pray when we have more time available:

“Father, take away this spirit of lust, and fill me with a spirit of love.” We can set a timer on our phone and pray this every hour. But... what if we start to struggle with lust 8 or 18 times that hour. Things like fantasies. Not turning quickly from lust thoughts, or dwelling for a bit when something tempting is on the TV or computer.

With every sin we should repent and pray a prayer at that time, I said.”

“Why.”

“Because if we don't we are giving power to that habit. When we repent and pray we are taking power from it.”

“But lately, I just keep getting overwhelmed by lust.”

“Pick three verses on lust and memorize them. Satan hates to hear them. Pound him the way Jesus pounded him during Jesus great temptation.”

“How did Jesus do it?”

“Satan would tell Jesus or us: Look at this. In reply, we can quote Romans 8:6 “For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.” We so quickly forget the consequences of looking, and we forget the benefits of living right. Verses on this topic solve both problems.”

“I like that idea. I think that will help.”

Consider praying:

“Father, take away this spirit of lust and fill me with Your joy.”

If people want what I have (joy that comes from God) then they might read what I write. This then also increases my joy.

Today I am also recommending that you focus on praying about humility:

“Father, help me to turn from sin, and help me to be humble.”

This prayer comes from Matthew five: Blessed are the poor in spirit. We start to become blessed when we focus on the fact that God is right about the way we should live. That our lives will be better when we live the way God says we should live.

I know nothing about how to live. Being poor in spirit (in part) means that I constantly check with the scriptures on how to live. It means that I pray over key verses so that the Holy Spirit increases in me and shows me how to live. Consider praying:

“Father, Your ways are always best.”

Being poor in spirit considers others to be higher. Philippians 2:3 “In lowliness of mind let each esteem the other better than himself.” Consider praying:

“Father, help me to run from lust, and help me to esteem others better than myself.”

I write often about how being filled with love fights addiction. Putting others higher is love.

Finally, have very specific goals with your hourly prayers. Yes... to get the lust out! But just as importantly, to get the Word, and Jesus in. When you are praying correctly, digging into the Word correctly, and fighting sin correctly, your joy should increase. Study Christian joy. Insist on increasing in Godly joy.

We are told to present our bodies as a living sacrifice. Part of sacrifice is to do what God wants us to do. We want to be busy with work, play, and pleasure. God wants us to do what He wants us to do and He wants to be our pleasure. Consider praying:

“Father, take away this spirit of lust and show me what You want me to do.”

To discover our purpose in life we should spend a block of time daily praying about it. We should try to get involved in some kind of Christian service to see if that is what God wants us to do. To get more ideas about finding purpose consider reading the Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren.

Romans 12: Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”

When we start “To do” what God wants us to do, satan will fight back telling us to reject being Holy, and by trying to get us into sin.

Study this verse. Is going to war with sin your reasonable service?

Second, sin brings us into darkness. It is really hard to fight addiction in that depressed state. Consider praying:

“Father, help me to turn from sin.”

Quitting formula: 51% doing + 49% stop doing

Finally, thinking in new ways is part of the 51%. Consider praying:

“Father, show me how You can be my pleasure.”

What should you "do" today?

The Bible says blessed are those who mourn.

We don't know the history of Joseph who ran from sin. Earlier in life he certainly lusted a bit, but he also most certainly mourned over his sin. Because he mourned his sin he grew to understand the destruction of it. After he mourned his lust the Holy Spirit started to change him. Consider praying:

“Father, help me to fight lust, I am sorry for my sin.”

Later in life, David learned to mourn over his lust. If he had learned that lesson a lot sooner, he would have avoided a lot of trouble.

This week: mourn over every lustful thought, fantasy, or split-second slip-up. Recognize the sin, and repent with sadness. Learn to trust God by agreeing with Him about how bad it is to sin. Consider praying:

“Father, help me to understand how serious sin is.”

If we have deep grief over our sin, that leads to blessing.

Matthew 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt has lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.”

If our lives are focused on pleasure we stop being the salt of the earth. Bibleref.com noted: “As salt preserves meat from rotting, believers in Jesus, distributed around the world, help to preserve humanity from falling into godlessness, immorality, chaos, and the resulting judgment. Salt permanently changes the flavor of food, just as the influence of godly people can change a culture. The main point is that Christians serve a godly purpose in the world simply by living out what we believe about Jesus.”

Consider praying: Father, help me to care about changing the world through You.” #2 Consider praying often: “Father, help me to care about souls.”

But what if we decide that we won't care about purpose? Tip... before deciding that, memorize what it says about the salt in the last half of the verse: “it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.”

Ouch!

What do I mean by "Quitting is 51% what we do and 49% what we stop doing?" Being salt is an important part of what we “do.” If somebody prints out this page and does what the verse says and does it and does it and does it. They have started thinking the way the Bible says to think. They are thinking less about how satan says to think.

The more they think right the more the Holy Spirit starts to fill them with joy, strength, and purpose.

The Bible says “where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”

If you find enough things to do to increase the Spirit of the Lord in you. You will have liberty.

Mikey's wife was about to kill him because of his porn obsession. So he decided to learn the habit of turning from lust. He decided he would practice praying, “Father, help me to run from lust, and help me to love my wife,” every morning, noon, and night. He also determined to pray that prayer every time he felt a bad scene coming on his TV.

Second, Peter was in big trouble. His boss had just told him that if he was caught viewing porn at work one more time he would be fired. So he decided to learn the habit of turning from lust. He decided he would practice praying, “Father, help me to turn from lust,” every hour. He set up his phone for an hourly alarm. Then once he got home he also added the prayer, “Father, help me to turn from sin, and give me the strength for new activities.” He prayed both prayers every hour and he planned to be ready to dig into scripture if lust started to overwhelm him.

Third, Pastor Johnson was getting depressed. As a church leader, he was not supposed to be gawking at sin on his computer more often than he was spending time preparing sermons. So he decided to practice praying, “Father, take away this spirit of lust and help me to care about souls,” every time he was tempted with lust. He prayed that prayer 847 times over the next four days.

Notes: These are three examples of prayer plans which will have varying levels of effectiveness.

#1 Pastor Johnson has an intense plan which shows that he is mourning over his sin.

#2 Peter has a plan for prayer and a plan for scripture if overwhelmed.

Most importantly, every prayer, every time must be wholehearted, with a fervent desire to change.

Finally, the habit of turning from lust is a top 10 habit to help with quitting. Consider forming a great plan to make it work for you.

To hate evil means to abhor it, to loathe it, to be disgusted by it. Consider praying:

“Father, help me to reject evil intensely.”

Here is a fact: God is right about everything. I may be wrong about a fair amount of things. If God says it is good to hate evil... He will be right.

When you are tempted, consider saying: “God will be right about this being bad, and ending badly.”

Do I find evil repugnant? Do I feel horror when I consider risky TV, movies, and places? If Eve had understood the consequences of eating the apple, she would have felt horror. Consider praying:

“Father, when I am tempted, remind me what the wages of sin are?”

If we are soldiers of Christ, we must fight to be hostile towards looking at risky things. Consider praying:

“Father, help me to fight against risky things, I believe that Your ways are right, and that they lead to joy.”

Second, the verse adds, “Cling to what is good.” I have a one-page printout of verses about love which I study most days. Studying love is a great way to cling to what is good.

Write down your two worst emotional problems. Then print out verses on those topics. When we read them daily we are clinging to good.

To cling to what is good, we embrace and find it very important to only look at clean things, and to go to the correct places. Consider praying:

“Father, teach me to prefer keeping my eyes pure. Show me the benefits of turning from lust.”

Love God – hate sin = great life.

We often forget love because we are obsessed with pleasure. In full addiction, our love/pleasure ratio is a low 1-5 rating. Our example Jesus Christ was always a perfect 100 rating.

To understand this ratio let's assume that our life is a house with 7 rooms.

Jonny just started trying to quit. He has a small room where he reads a chapter in his Bible daily. A small room where he prays daily, and a big room where he is now determined to find cleaner pleasure. He also has a small room where he fights lust daily at NoFap.

Let's give him a love/pleasure ratio of 19. He is trying, but he has a lot of empty rooms...

Billy is determined to quit. He has a medium-sized room where he reads a chapter in the New and a chapter in the Olt Testament in the Bible daily. He also has a small room where he sometimes goes to the verses for quitting when tempted. He has a medium room where he tries to have a block of prayer every day. He also has a medium room where he sometimes studies love often. He also has a medium room where he always goes to church.

Let's give him a love/pleasure ratio of 40. Lots of good stuff, but something will fill those empty rooms.

Oscar is obsessed with quitting. He has a large-sized room where he reads a chapter in the New and a chapter in the Old Testament in the Bible daily. He also has a room where he meditates daily on key verses. He also has a large room where he always goes to the verses for quitting when tempted. He has a large room where he always has a block of prayer every day. He also has a large room where he studies love daily. He also has a large room where he always goes to church every time it is open. He also has a large room where he is obsessed with finding his purpose.

With this limited information, we could give him a love/pleasure ratio of anywhere between 62 and 84. He has no empty rooms for satan to sneak into. He is very busy thinking about a lot of other good things.

Finally, when we have a high love/pleasure ratio we will also have a high amount of pleasure. With no destruction added.

The first article indicates that fatigue from fighting against addiction is likely real. So we need to develop the habit of resisting immediately, then working to think about something else. Today, consider printing out some of the promises of God and read a couple every time you are tempted.

Psalm 37:4 ESV
Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Isaiah 40:31 ESV

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

James 1:5 ESV
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” Consider praying:

“Father, give me wisdom on how to quit.”

Psalm 84:11 ESV
For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.

1 Corinthians 10:13 ESV
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”

Always think about ways of escape from temptation.

2 Corinthians 7:1 ESV
Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.

Jeremiah 29:11 ESV
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Consider praying:
“Father, take away this spirit of lust and show me Your plans.”

Fighting lust is vitally needed. But it is very wise to make it a goal to spend more time filling your mind up with good than you spend fighting bad. That is how we quit for good.

Numbers 11:1 One day the Israelites started complaining about their troubles. The Lord heard them and became so angry that he destroyed the outer edges of their camp with fire.”

God does not like complaining. It also often leads to darkness, then sin, and then often back to addiction after we convince ourselves that our lives stink.

Instead, God says to rejoice always and give thanks for all things.

Philippians 2:14 ESV
Do all things without grumbling or disputing.” Consider praying:

"Father, help me not to complain."

James 5:9 ESV
Do not grumble against one another, brothers, so that you may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing at the door.

1 Corinthians 10:10 ESV
Nor grumble, as some of them did and were destroyed by the Destroyer.”

God insists that we work on the habit of not complaining.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 ESV
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Exodus 16:8 ESV
And Moses said, “When the Lord gives you in the evening meat to eat and in the morning bread to the full, because the Lord has heard your grumbling that you grumble against him—what are we? Your grumbling is not against us but against the Lord.”

Consider focusing on making it a habit to praise the Lord, give thanks, or to rejoice every time you are tempted to complain. That habit will make you happier, and it will help in the fight against lust.

Viacharacter.org noted: “Prudence means being careful about your choices, stopping and thinking before acting. It is a strength of restraint. When you are prudent, you are not taking unnecessary risks, and not saying or doing things that you might later regret. If you are high in prudence, you are able to consider the long-term consequences of your actions.”

#1 Being careful. What do you keep feeding into your phone? A-I will spit back out what you keep clicking on. I am a YouTube watcher. I try to never click on things like bikini girls or, sexy movie stars because if I do, YouTube will keep recommending them to me.

#2 Stopping and thinking before acting. Wrong acting gives darkness for the week and maybe the month. Wrong acting gives unknown destruction, but there will be some. Wrong acting steals your chance at joy, purpose, peace and many other things. Consider having a few “Stop and think,” notes in places where you often are.

#3 Strength of restraint. Try saying 100 times daily for the next two days:
“I can stop. I will stop.”

Simply repeating it increases our restraint and determination.

#4 Long-term consequences. Doing things God's way causes great long-term consequences. Doing things satans way involves short-term fun and disastrous long-term consequences. Consider which one leads to a great life.

Finally, consider making habits that involve prudence. It is a wise decision.

Gotquestions.org noted: “Goodness is virtue and holiness in action. It results in a life characterized by deeds motivated by righteousness and a desire to be a blessing. It’s a moral characteristic of a Spirit-filled person. The Greek word translated “goodness,” agathosune, is defined as "uprightness of heart and life." Agathosune is goodness for the benefit of others, not goodness simply for the sake of being virtuous.”
To quit permanently we need to know and focus on the scripture about the first part of goodness. “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”

Step one is to believe that "No cheating" will lead to a better life. This also starts to lead to a blessing.

Step two is to constantly think spiritual thoughts after rejecting thoughts of lust. Today I am focusing on goodness. A person filled with goodness thinks: What good can I do for someone else today? How can I be a blessing to someone today? Consider praying:

“Father, help me to know how to help others.”

Research shows that people who help others may be 50% more likely to quit their addiction. I think those numbers are low. I think if you dedicate your life to helping others you are twice as likely to quit for good.

#1, if you do good and start to be blessed you will be inspired. So you do more good. Next, you focus on hungering and thirsting after righteousness. This leads to more blessings.

#2, you will be busy doing something which allows less time to mess up.

#3, These focuses force you to think often about how to renew your mind.

#4, we were created for purpose, so when we help others we start to increase in joy.

#5 Research shows that when we help others we are less depressed, we have higher self-esteem, we start to learn how to fight against the self-absorption that comes with addiction, and we just simply feel better about life.

Consider spending time in prayer, praying about increasing in goodness. Goodness is a key to quitting.

The first problem is not when we completely fall. The first problem is when we lose the presence of the Lord. David looked, and kept looking. What happened later is important, but his first sin was to undervalue God’s presence and to overvalue his pleasure.

David had the fullness of joy as a boy. The Spirit was with him and he saved the Israelites with his victory over Goliath. But he gave in to many pleasures and lust became a stronghold.

After Bathsheba

Later David learned how important it was to turn instantly from lust to keep the presence of the Lord.

Try to be aware of that darkness coming, be aware of that restlessness that is a signal that all is not right in your life. When you feel a bad cloud coming pray:

“Psalm 51:11 (NASB, NLT) Do not cast me away from Your presence. And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.”

David had everything when the Holy Spirit was fully with him. Later in life, he learned to have the highest value possible for staying in God’s presence.

Consider praying: Father, help me not to overvalue pleasure, help me to value Your presence as I should.”

List 3 things that take you from God’s presence. Today, find an article to help you form a plan to defeat these things.

What if you spend a whole week fully valuing God’s presence while striving to undervalue the importance of pleasure? It might just be the best week of your life.

Is porn idolatry? 1 Corinthians 10:7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.”

We have to eat and drink, so the problem is playing? Wow, God wants us doing certain things and he is more against certain things than others. Who knew?

If playing a game is idolatry, is porn idolatry. Decide for yourself. Second, this passage condemns gaming in excess. Once again, if you game in moderation, decide for yourself.

Third, maybe 51% of the reason David fell with Bathsheba was that he was not worshiping God fervently at that time. As a young boy, he worshiped and praised God “All the time.” But he got spoiled when he became king. Then he fell.

Psalm 95:6 ESV
Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!

“After Bathseba,” David was famous for dancing before the Lord, for singing to the Lord, for giving thanks. He learned to run from sin, and he was a great worshiper again.

Isaiah 12:5 ESV “Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously; let this be made known in all the earth.
Psalm 150:6 ESV Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
Hebrews 12:28 ESV Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe,
Psalm 71:8 ESV

My mouth is filled with your praise, and with your glory all the day.”

When David was right, he praised God all the time.

I have a friend in real estate who puts “Praise the Lord,” on his sold signs.

Proclaim often: “Father, You are a great and mighty God. You are the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Today, I worship You.

When I watch my fav Lauren Daigle video’s I am praising God just by singing along with her lyrics.

Fill your mind up with worship by singing spiritual songs, giving thanks often, and praising the Lord. Make it a daily habit.

I linked the great article that this thread is loosely based on.

To learn the habit of turning from lust it is important to know what you are up against. Consider trying this test. Every time you have a lustful thought, track it on your phone or on a piece of paper. To bring an immediate fight, pray with every bad thought:

“I am sorry Father, help me think new thoughts.” Pray it sincerely, with respect every time.

What if your lust test numbers out at 847 or 1568? If you have any lustful thoughts you need new things to think about. If you have a ton, you should consider being completely obsessed with new thoughts.

I have given 20-30 new things to think about in my last 15 articles. Consider copying and pasting (new thought) ideas onto one page and printing them out.

Second, the Holy Spirit is watching everything we do to try to quit. Sometimes when we do a lot of “things” to quit, He helps us even more.

Replace lustful thoughts with Godly thoughts. Pull out your sheet every time you have a lustful thought, and think the good thought. It will take time and work. But, it won’t take long before you start to think of some good thoughts naturally. Over time you will “Raise the level” of how you think. Then it will give you a glimpse of what it is like to really live “In the light.”

“Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.” Many of us won’t be perfect anytime soon, but God looks at the heart. After Bathsheba, David became once again pure in heart. He saw his error and once again his focus was on pleasing God.

We need for our hearts to be right before our actions will be right. GCU noted: “Jesus wants our hearts to genuinely desire things that are pleasing to Him – then, our lives will reflect and produce things that are pleasing to Him.” Consider praying:

“Father, help me turn from lust, and help me to desire things that please You.”

We can’t be pure in the heart until we repent as David did. For me, I can’t start to be pure in my heart until I say again, “Father, I am wrong again, Your Word is right again.”

Being pure in heart is a 100% effort. We come before God after repentant prayer and ask Him to help us do things His way. It includes a willingness to change to do things His way and a desire to pray to learn how to do things His way. It asks this question: Will I stay in prayer until Jesus refining fire changes me into what He wants me to be? Consider meditating on Psalm 51:10 daily: “Create in me a new heart, renew a right Spirit within me.”

We often live based on “What we believe.” Instead, we should regularly focus on being pure in heart, because that is the path to blessing.

The pure in heart shall see God. Purity in the heart is loving God with all our might.

To quit addiction it is important to get a glimpse of the glory of God. I often recommend the God Chasers by Tommy Tenny because it is a book about thinking about and trying to find the glory of God. God wants us to see at least a glimpse of His glory so that we can be excited about Him, and about what life is like when we serve Him. Consider praying:

“Father, take away my love of pleasure, and show me Your glory.”

A second way we start to see God is to start to live in His joy.

Fun versus joy

Over the next three hours, I can try to maximize my fun my way, or I can focus on doing God’s will and try to do things God’s way.

With joy, my three good hours turn into 24 to 48 good hours of having peace, feeling God’s love, increasing in the fruits of the Spirit, increasing my willpower, increasing my self-control, and finding contentment. With joy, I can still have short-term fun, but it must be in a clean way. With joy, I always must love and serve God. With joy my week is always better, and the long term is always better. Always think long-term.

Consider memorizing Psalm 16:11: “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: In thy presence is fulness of joy; At thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”

We can’t pray too often:

“Father, show me the path of life.” Or:

“Father, take away this lust and show me how to find joy.” Or:

“Father, help me to run from sin, and teach me about Your pleasures.”

This week, consider taking 3 verses from the list about lust and quote them often to start to pound the sin out. Then find 3 good prayers to pray often to help you find a new path. Doing things like these start to make you pure in heart. Then… good things will start to happen.

On busy days consider picking 1-3 prayers so that you can focus on them often when you have time. But even when you have time, focus on opening up your heart to Jesus. The words are of mild importance, your desire to do what God wants is of great importance.

Consider praying: "Father, show me how wrong thoughts poison my life."

Consider praying: “Father, take away my spirit of lust and help me to turn from worthless things.”

Consider praying: “Father, help me to make no exceptions. Help me to turn aggressively from sin in every situation.”

“Father, help me to always raise the standards in turning from lust.”

“Father, show me what my life can be like if I run instantly from lust.”

“Father, take away my love of pleasure.”

“Father, show me how to fight sin and fill me with Your love.”

“Father, help me to run from sinful pleasures. Teach me how to make You my pleasure.”

“Father, help me to run from lust and help me care about souls”

“Father, help me to hate sin and help me to forgive.”

“Jesus, thank you for the cross. I will think about Your cross.”

“Father, take away my spirit of discouragement, and fill me with Your strength.”

“Father, help me to be content. You are a great and mighty God.”

“Father, help me to love and help people more than I love pleasure.”

“Father, help me to turn from lust and help me to be kind.”

“Father, show me new ways to think and help me to be humble.”

“Father, help me to fight lust always and help me to be patient.”

Always pray each prayer with sincerity and a strong desire to change.

What you do is 51% of quitting. What you stop doing is only 49%. Because, if you don't replace the bad stuff with good stuff... you will always have a vacuum (empty space) in your life that needs filling.

Pray the Lord’s prayer. For more on the prayer for fighting lust.

Quote: Matthew 6:22-23 “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!"

Say "Lust equals darkness - good thoughts equal light."

Say: I believe that pure thoughts will lead to a great life.

Say: I reject satan's lies. I accept God's view that lust destroys.

Secondly, if you are tempted to fall, never say, “This is the last time.” Instead say, “I am rebelling, and there will be a lot of destruction because of it.” Satan wants you to lie about what is going on. Be honest.

When life runs us over we can obey the Bible and 16 “Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

This year I will be praying over each of the fruits of the Spirit. Reading each fruit then praying: “Father, fill me with Your love.” “Father, fill me with Your joy.” “Father, fill me with Your self-control etc.”

Say: I believe that pure thoughts will lead to a great life.

It takes 66 days on average to form a new habit. Consider picking which prayers you want to be habits for you.
