Porn's Impact On The Brain

Very interesting. Thanks for the video.

As they say, porn addiction causes real physical brain changes.

And with abstinence, the brain heals itself by trying to reach homeostasis. The consequence of this „recalibration“ are withdrawal symptoms.

PAWS (post acute withdrawal syndrome) is 100 % real. I have no doubt about it.

Indeed. The implication of physical brain changes is PAWS. Specially when using porn for long periods of time ( and during adolescence ).

Our subjective experiences, our perception, every state of consciousness depends on the pshysical state of our brain.

That's why the word " DOPAMINE " is paramount. And why i will always remember Gary Wilson.

Many things change the physical structure of the brain: learning a new language, learning to play an instrument, learning to play a sport, etc.

The issue is not whether or not it causes changes in the brain. The problem is what kind of changes it causes.

Ahhh, I forgot.

Post Acute Withdrawal Symptoms is related to chemical additions and in the worst case lasts only 10 months. So far there is no serious evidence that speaks of this in terms about the PMO.

All addictions cause brain changes, chemical or behavioral, specially in the brain’s reward system and limbic system ( PMO ). Do you understand ?

Even your research about PAWS is wrong.

Just stop. You trying my patience now.

Three things may be happening:

1. You have pre-existing conditions that have nothing to do with PMO

2. You've gotten too (too obsessed) into a silly NOFAP ideology and that has screwed up more than one's minds when they get obsessed and become neurotic with this Reboot and Quit PMO thing.

3. It is possible that I am wrong and you really DO have a very serious problem because you started using porn since your puberty.

Here the only question that remains is at what age did you start using it?

Maybe people who started too early in life get that (I mean getting into a long flat line, PAWS, severe depression and all these things I still don't believe in).

Maybe it's hard for me to understand because, to be honest, I started PMOing for the first time at 24 years of age. In my puberty and my time as a teenager I never even had a television, much less was I going to have a computer. In fact, I remember that at that time there was no internet here in my country. That means I grew up WITHOUT PORN, I grew without Internet.

When I did my reboot and decided to quit PMO, (That was a few months ago) I didn't feel any withdrawal symptoms at all, no depression, no kind of flatline, nothing like that. Only, I remember that the only thing I felt is that around day 60 my sexual desire got higher. For the rest, nothing more.

I was really addicted ? I think so, because before restarting, I spent many hours in front of the computer doing the PMO.

I am currently 40 years old. Arguably an unusual case, I started PMO somewhat late in life (at 24 years of age).

Maybe that's the reason why I don't believe in the flat line, or PAWS, or anything like that. Perhaps those of us who started PMO as adults recover faster and without so much trauma, without so many withdrawal symptoms. In fact, we don't even feel flat lines, and if we do, they are really very short and do not last more than two weeks.

I am proof of it. I didn't start as a teenager, and perhaps that's why my reboot didn't take such a dramatic turn that many here who started in their teens.

i started watching porn at the age of 14 or 15 and now I’m 20 almost 21. I’ve been rebooting for awhile and as someone who watched porn early I can definitely feel a flatline. As for the PAWS I’m not really sure, I have quite a bit of symptoms but I’m not 100% sure so I’m not gonna assume I have it. Your case is really interesting though.

I agree.

I find it very strange that Gary Wilson has dealt extensively with addiction, dopamine, brains, etc., but has never mentioned PAWS.

I can't find anything about it in his book either.

PAWS / protracted withdrawal is much more commonly accepted with alcohol, drugs, medications, but rarely with PMO.

It is probably because P-addiction is not properly recognized and that many persons think it is normal and does not change your brain the way real drugs do.

We are pioneers, this is a very recent problem. The " Flatline " itself is not fully understood, there are no studies about this symptom.

PAWS is mentioned in " Your Brain On Porn " site and many recovery forums.

In any case, Gary Wilson, Gabe Deem, Noah Church, they all talked about long reboots.

Gary Wilson described PAWS but didn't give the proper name for the phenomenon. The existence and observation of long reboots are still real.

I find it silly that you do not believe in a NOFAP, Reboot, quitting PMO thingy...

The evidence overwhelmingly supports said silly ideology. To support those claims, there are plenty of forums (Reddit/NoFap,Reddit/Pornfree, YourBrainRebalanced) that all state such silly ideology works through multiple accounts. As a gentle reminder: YMMV

Maybe people who started too early in life get that (I mean getting into a long flat line, PAWS, severe depression and all these things I still don't believe in).

That's fine for you not to believe in, please keep it strictly to your belief system. Please don't throw it at others and say it's not part of their recovery.

When I did my reboot and decided to quit PMO, (That was a few months ago)

Was that a few months ago or years ago? I'm confused, did you relapse?
