One of the most common effects of shame is a decrease in self-esteem and self-worth. When people feel ashamed, they may believe that they are not good enough or that they have failed in some way. This can lead to a negative self-image and a lack of confidence in their abilities.
Another potential effect of shame is a tendency to isolate yourself from others. People who feel ashamed may believe that they are not worthy of social connections and may avoid social interactions or withdraw from relationships. This can lead to feelings of loneliness and isolation, which can have a negative impact on your mental health.

Shame can also lead to the avoidance of certain situations or activities. For example, a person who feels ashamed of their appearance may avoid social events or situations where they might be seen by others. This avoidance can lead to a lack of opportunities for personal growth and prevent people from engaging in activities that they enjoy.

In some cases, shame can also lead to more serious mental health problems, such as depression and anxiety. When people feel ashamed, they may experience intense negative emotions and may struggle to cope with these feelings. This can lead to a range of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, and even suicidal thoughts.

Overall, shame can have a wide range of negative effects on an individual's mental health and well-being. It is important for people who are experiencing shame to seek support from friends, family, or a mental health professional to help them work through these difficult emotions.
Fuck Man this is so accurate. Currently feel like i've distanced myself from my friends purposefully so even. I just feel i'm not good enough? Like they're in another path and are so much more accomplished to me, i used to be an ahead person but i think my mental state has really deteriorated my mental state. I really want to go to therapy but i'm scared of admitting i need help it's something i've never been good at, asking help. I always seem to think i cand do things by myself which evidently i seem to not be able to do. Thanks for being so real and thoughtful i will power through today. Sometimes these low moments are good for me though without fully delving into the pain and depths of misery you can find things about yourself in a way you cannot when you're in a middling low state as you search in a more deeper manner being more inquisitive of life and one's self. In a way pain reveals what a lukewarm feeling cannot.

Feeling shame can be a difficult and painful experience. If you're feeling ashamed, it's important to remember that you are not alone and that everyone experiences shame at some point in their lives. One way to start recovering from shame is to talk to someone about what you're feeling. This could be a friend, family member, or a mental health professional. They can provide support and help you work through your feelings.

Another way to recover from shame is to practice self-compassion. This means treating yourself with the same kindness and understanding that you would offer to a friend who is going through a tough time. Remember that you are human and that everyone makes mistakes. Instead of beating yourself up, try to focus on what you can learn from the situation and how you can move forward.

It can also be helpful to challenge the thoughts and beliefs that are contributing to your feelings of shame. Ask yourself if these thoughts are realistic and based on fact, or if they are distorted and unhelpful. If they are distorted, try to reframe them in a more positive and compassionate light.

Finally, remember to be patient with yourself and to take things one step at a time. Recovery from shame is not a quick or easy process, but with time and support, you can learn to let go of your shame and move forward.

Had a rough going frankly. Relapsed a LOT. Anyway i resolved i wouldn't post till i had a 3 day streak minimum. I am Back, and i'm determined. One thing i must remind myself as odd as it sounds. I am not doing this to quit masturbation that is a healthy form of release and i need an outlet. What really faults me is when i quit porn and quit masturbation where then when the urge builds up as it does in any healthy male i use my vice. Instead i should be responding to it via a non stimulated release. Anyway Day 3 is Set Day 4 tomorrow i am not fucking quitting.

You should always return, even if it's multiple relapses a day. Express how you are feeling at the moment. It will only benefit in the long run.

Where did you hear that MO is a "healthy form of release"?

It is generally not recommended for a recovering pornography addict to engage in any sexual behavior, including masturbation. This is because sexual behaviors can trigger addictive behaviors and undermine recovery.

It is important in recovery to focus on your recovery and address the underlying issues that contributed to the addiction. This may involve therapy, support groups, or other forms of treatment.

In order to avoid relapse, it is also critical to establish healthy boundaries and behaviors. This may involve setting limits on sexual behavior, including masturbation, and finding healthy ways to cope with sexual urges.

Ultimately, the best course of action for an addict will depend on their individual needs and circumstances.

Just my opinion.

Starting Now
Hey man. Have you done research on this? Somebody here said to me to do extensive research on the impacts of porn on your brain. This actually helps understand whats its doing to you in a biological sense. Once you actually understand this, everytime you start thinking about porn, your brain starts to think about the super negative things it does to you. So please read about it online or even read books on it. "Your brain on porn" and "power over pornography" are a good start. I am on Day 3 right now. But I have a streak of over 30 days. But I honestly never really tried my best to stay disciplined. But I know I can now! And you can too!

hey man, noticed youre struggling, as you mention a relapse. Do you have a blocking software and a real person to be accountable to? I use Covenant Eyes and im almost 90 days clean for the first time ever. I also found an awesome accountability partner right here on Reboot Nation and we monitor each others activity daily. I highly recommend a situation like this for recovery.

There are 3 "A's" to this addiction that make it hard to kick. Affordable, Anonymous, and Accessible. Covenant Eyes is able to nearly wipe out 2/3 of those by making it so you cant anonymously watch porn on your devices and it isnt accessible on them either. I would seriously consider this if you really want to get clean

I relapsed today and restarting my streak. I'm failing miserably, I'm going to be honest and be more committed and have a deeper outlook on quitting this addiction. I need to be more transparent and honest about my failings. I'm going to start a habit of turning off my phone and computer at 9PM. The only device that will be accessible to me is my Ereader. By being consistent about device usage I can limit my accessibility.
