Hi, my name is Richard and I am a porn and cyber sex addict. I am 38 years old, and I have been battling this addiction longer than I have been fighting my alcoholism. At least sine I was twelve, I think was when I started. I want this done and to be accountable.

Reading several books, including Our of the Shadows, by Patrick Carnes, and Gary Wilson's the Brain on Porn.

I am on day one of being sober of alcohol again, and less than a day clean from porn.

I am staying away from all porn and erotica. Sex scenes in novels are okayish. But I try to avoid them. Anyway.

I'm back, ready to take this seriously. I am active in AA as well.

Good luck @SoberRich - I, too, am a fan of Gary Wilson’s pioneering work. Keep reading and understanding is my advice. I went complate cold turkey when I started and didn’t allow myself to masturbate until it became unbearable (on average about 3-4 weeks). It’s a white knuckle experience but I found that being accountable on here and in an SAA fellowship made a massive difference. But also having knowledge of what I had done to my brain was also a key pillar of my recovery because when you know what you have done to yourself then going back is madness.

Holding myself accountable here by writing. I am drinking and I have also binged erotic stories and porn.

I Want To defeat both of these addictions and be a better person. My counters for both alcohol and porn/erotica will be reset tomorrow. I am in on this for the new year. Here is to a porn/erotica and alcohol free 2025!
