What counts as erotica?

Erotica is by far my go to when it comes to porn.

So here is the question, what is, or is not erotica?

I am am avid reader and reading, both fiction and nonfiction, is an enjoyable last time.

I find that much of the fiction I read fkr adults is fine, and not erotica. Much of it does not cover sex in any detail.

The author either merely implies that a couple have sex, with either the woman or man leading the partner to the bedroom.

Or the author does feature the sex, but not in graphic detail. He or she will focus on the faces, or on the feelings the character is having.

I would argue this also is not erotica, as the scenes are not written to titilate the reader. The sex is skirt of just, there.

It is used to make further points about a character or couple.

Anyway, I am likely over thinking this. Let me know if I am.

Back when I was actively posting, as in regularly, I would tell members that porn talks to you, porn reasons with you, porn laughs with you, cries with you, jokes with you, argues with you, reasons with you, agrees with you, disagrees with you, flatters you, insults you, etc....

I am afraid, my friend, you are a victim of that.

One of the biggest lies porn tells us (and it really is not porn lying to us, it is us lying to ourselves) is that we are addicted to a "category". I have not really seen "erotica" named as a category before, though I have seen everything else, and some categories pretty close.

If you are truly addicted, you are not addicted to erotica. You, my friend, are addicted to using a thing to generate a sexual thought which in turn generates a dopamine reward and motivational event in the brain, and that is what is addictive; not whatever category you are using to get there.

And so what it porn? Humanity invented porn. Humanity almost certainly invented porn because it is a very efficient means of achieving a dopamine high. In a sense, porn is everything, as in sex sells. Any image, sound, writing, etc, that leads to a sexual thought suddenly is very interesting to us because a dopamine high draws our attention In nature, this is quit healthy, because it is nature's way of encouraging reproduction. But, humanity has figured out ways to abuse that process.

I say: Porn is porn and you will know it when you feel it, as in get a dopamine high from it.

I won't bore you trying to reinvent the wheel; the wheel has already been invented. Here it is. Watch it, study it. Peace.

What Billy said. It really doesn't matter: if your brain uses it to get aroused, then it's erotica for you. It's hard: I've had to mark some things off-limit for myself that are clearly not porn, because using them always ends up leading me to things that certainly are. And those things might not bother you in the least.

Is the rational part of you in control when you're reading/watching/searching for [whatever]? Still in control afterwards? Then it's fine for you. If not, then it isn't. It's really that simple (but I know, from great personal bitter experience, that actually doing it is not that simple!).
