Alert: I do not recommend porn filters anymore. If I got time, I want to make a new post with my insights and experience writing in detail why nobody should use any porn filter. You could try porn filters but if it doesn't work, please stop and do not waste more time and energy is my advice. Focus your attention on getting good insight and understanding in the root cause of your addiction

Hello everyone!

I would like to share my story about the importance of porn filters and why I believe there should be an instruction for porn addicts how to install and to make sure it works great without being able to bypass it.

I would love to see the symbol of k9 web protection with a link on the front page of any website to stop PMO. This will make it easier for anyone to instantly see the software and install it, and with the right instructions how to prevent bypassing it. This will prevent a lot of frustration and wasting time.

Best is to make a combination of k9 and qustodio I believe. These days we are busy and not every porn addict is going to read all the information on the websites or create an account. We need to get to the point and help porn users as fast as possible. I made the mistake not reading articles on www.yourbrainonporn.com. I did not even see if there were links for porn filters.  I went away and it took me another half year I think to struggle with porn.

For me, I was hooked on PMO because I couldn't stop myself not looking at porn. I believe will power is just not enough to handle this addiction. We need to be many steps ahead when dealing with this addiction I believe. I tried years to find the best porn filter but I failed. I used a block list filter many years and I added as many porn sites as possible. The problems was that it was impossible for me to put all porn sites on the block list. Every time I found a new link and I relapsed.

Until this year in January I finally found out about k9 web protector. Still it took me almost another 8 months to figure out how to completely block porn with k9 filter and the mistakes I made while using k9. I contacted k9 co-workers every time I was able to bypass it. I recorded my experience and I added reported websites to k9 which k9 failed to block. (because I did not put it on the highest protection rate I think)

Finally I made an instructions on www.rebootnation.org under my name zaraki888 how to make sure k9 is working effective. For me it does the job. It keeps me from watching any porn or stimulants.

Be many steps ahead

I would like to add in this post that it is possible to add the word ''k9 '' and ''bypass'' in the k9 block words list. This will prevent any page to load when a person tries to find a way to bypass k9 in search engines by typing in these words. One does need to put the main administration page http://127.0.0.1:2372/ link in the white list, to be able to access k9 when needed. Also put http://www1.k9webprotection.com/ in the white list for help. I do believe k9 cannot be removed without re-installing the computer. It has been designed like that.

K9 is also working currently on making different settings for different user profiles.This is handy for porn users who would like to put k9 on the highest protection rate, when using the same computer with their parents or anyone else.

In the meantime, I installed Qustodio on my parents pc. Qustodio only works on one account for free. A user needs to pay when he wants Qustodio to work on many profiles on one pc. My parents are still able to access any websites when they are logged into their accounts. I am finally save when browsing behind their computer when I visit them

It wasn't easy for me to ask them to make a user profile and put a password on it. I just told them that I am addicted to watching youtube and wasting a lot of time. I relapsed many many times when I was visiting them. If this is the case for you, please protect yourself.

K9 is the best porn filter I believe if one knows how to handle the filter correctly. I use it in combination with Qustodio and recently I also use Cold Turkey.

k9 and Qustodio on mobile phone

I installed k9 first on my mobile phone and when I installed Qustodio, I wasn't able to log in somehow and Qustodio installation unfortunate failed.

I recommend to install Qustodio first and k9 second on your phone. Make sure to add websites like www.yandex.com and others in the black list. K9 has unfortunate no settings possibility like a black list. They are working on making an administration tool for k9 on mobile phone. Perhaps Cold Turkey also exist on a mobile phone.

If you would like some words to be blocked according to my experience, please scroll down and put the following words in the black list of k9 on your pc or if possible, in Qustodion on your mobile phone. These are just extreme block so just feel free to add or do not add at all.

So don't scroll down if you are not using k9 web protection filter on your pc or any other device! These words are just a helping tool to prevent getting being triggered according to my experience.

paint (do not put body paint because then the word body will be blocked, please test it out yourself)
Brazilian (trust me, big trigger so I am not gonna put the second word behind, this word will do just fine)

Youtube (Sorry youtube is a must block unless you are not being triggered)
Dailymotion
Ebay
Amazon.com
.................please add words you know yourself but be carefull. Once you put it in k9, you will not be able to access these words anymore when typing into search engine.

The following are search engines I highly recommend to block because of search images both on pc and mobile phone: type in the words block list or add in black list.

wow.com

I only use www.duckduckgo.com and www.k9safesearch.com

How to install K9 Porn filter correctly

Step 1:

Install k9 but do not use your own email dress! Because in k9, you are still able to send a new password to your email!

Please create a new email account (Hotmail) with a password number like 1275Bc!. When you have to enter your email address during register, use 10 minute mail just to activate your new email account. 10 minute mail will temporary give you an email account for just 10 minutes! After 10 minutes, the email will be gone forever.

Now please write down your new email name with password on a piece of paper and install k9. Create a password number for k9 and also write it down.


After installing, please put the protection settings on the highest rate! (which also might block streaming video's) If you do not put it on the highest rate, you will be able to still watch P or bypass the filter.

You have to give in to get what you really want I believe. This step is very important but a hard pill to swallow.

It is possible to add websites on the block list without logging into k9 web administration. Please read the instruction how to do this when you log into k9. (keep in mind this will not always work and you might need to click many times). With this handy tool, when you do find link which triggers you, you have the choice to immediately add it to the block list. Don't hesitate but do it within seconds!

Make a white list to make sure k9 is not blocking it. For instance, add rebootnation and yourbrainbalanced in the white list.

Type in words in the block words list like ?naked? ?bikini? ?lingerie??yoga?. K9 will block every word you type in the search engine.

*Make sure to type in ?k9? too in the block words list, because this will prevent you to bypass k9 when you want to try to type in a search engine how to remove the software. (according to k9, without the password, removing k9 is not possible.)

Make sure you are able to access k9 web administration by adding the link to the white list. The link is a number I think and put the link in your bookmark favorite. (please try this out if it works, I haven?t tried it out because I lost my password)


Check k9 filter, go to google images and see if you can watch hardcore images. k9 should be able to block images, if not then mail me for setting change in your pc. If setting change do not work, then you should add google to block list. Because of https, blocking google was a pain in the ass for me.

Check other search engines for images like yahoo, wow, bing, yandex, dogpile, ixquick, and more.

I recommend to put all search engines into the black list except for www.duckduckgo.com and www.k9safesearch.com ! Duckduckgo is a good anonymous search engine and it will make it harder for you to find any porn website to bypass. Without other search engines, how are you gonna be able to find any new porn links or porn image? Also most search engines does show hardcore image, see for yourself.

You should block the following websites in my opinion, youtube, dailymotion, pinterest, photobuncket, facebook. Please add your own black list. K9 does have a beta version for youtube and maybe facebook but it did not worked for me.

I would say, block any page which let you see photo?s of babes. Like yoga video's and stuff like that which might trigger you in the future. Also online dating sites I would recommend to block. I blocked most streaming video websites. When you feel cravings, a simple picture of a hot women not naked, might get you back into PMO.

If you know websites to download P movies, k9 should be able to block it. If not than you should add it to the block list my friend.



Step 2

Please install a second filter Qustodio!!! Very important step and follow the instructions. Use your new email account to register.

The second filter is important because it will block websites when k9 fails. Also the second filter will make it more difficult to bypass. You will need more time to bypass 2 filters.

For instance, when you type in porn in a search engine, Qustodio will block your search results.

Make sure you put the Qustodio administration page on the white list and add to bookmark. Put the word qustodio in k9 blocking words list. Now k9 will block any page which explains how to remove the software if possible.

Now try and see if the filters are working and add every website on the black list.



Step 3

If you think you have done enough testing, please send the k9 password and your new email account name with password to a family member, friend or someone on this forum like me. Erase your password numbers you wrote down. You could also use www.lettermelater.com. But it is not very effective when you need the password right now.

Note that when you have created an account on www.lettermelater.com, when clicking on ''compose'' , just above the grey button ''schedule to be sent'' you can click on ''more options''. And you can click on ''hide'': Do not let me see or edit this email until after it has been sent.

Whenever you do find another trigger website, ask the password and when you received it, add the link to the black list and immediately delete your email. (check again if email is deleted)



Step 4

Make sure you put the filter k9 on your mobile phone, Ipad, notebook and any other device where you stay! Repeat the whole process above if necessary. For notebooks I recommend to also install Qustodio filter.


See your filter as your buddy to help heal yourself. Please add suggestions if you would like to and help make k9 stronger, by sending them not rated websites. Feel free to ask any questions! Although I am not often online. Good luck and please comment to let me know if it works for you too!

Extra:

I installed noscript, see https://noscript.net/

Not only can you hide while surfing the net, noscript also blocks streaming video?s. A person have to click to allow a page to play. This also takes time, you might need these couple of seconds when reconsidering watching a video.

I also use Ghostery which sometimes helps I think. Ghostery blocks trackers, perhaps P trackers.


Problem:

What if I don't want to install K9 because of someone else?

If you are still living with your parents or you are living with someone else you don't want to let them know about your addictions, you could buy a private computer like a notebook.
Ask your parents, friends or your partner to put a password on the pc. You could tell them you are addicted to something else like gaming or watching youtube video's. Or you can of course make another account on the same computer from your parents.

Now asking them to create a password so you will not be able to log into theirs, is kinda tricky without giving in. I am sure you will find a way to convince them if you would like to follow this. Good luck!

There is sadly a bypass, atleast since updating to Windows 10, k9 for whatever reason doesn't work in Safemode with Networking - atleast on my computer it doesn't - it pops up saying "k9 is corrupted and needs to be reinstalled" and the filter doesn't work at all - can look at porn and everything, but if I boot into normal mode, it works there. So that kind of sucks. Does anyone run windows 7 and can test if it works in safe mode there?  I may give Qustodio a shot but I've found my computer seems to randomly lock up when both were running for whatever reason. Maybe just use Qustodio all the time.

Thanks a lot for posting and letting me know about another bypass.  I use windows 7 and when I go into safe mode, I am not able to watch porn.

I am not sure if k9 or Qustodio is blocking the porn sites because I do not see the screen of k9 or qustodio popping up. However somehow  I think ''noscript'' is helping to prevent me from watching images, video's and porn. I tested it out and even going to youtube, I cannot unlock safe search. I cannot watch images when going to yahoo, wow or yandex search engines.

I recommend you to install ''noscript''. If you have the password, you could remove k9 and install k9 again and see if it works in safe mode on windows 10. You could also make contact with k9 service and ask for help.

New advice using k9 and Qustodio porn filters

Hello my friends,

I realized using www.k9safesearch.com is probably the best search engine. If you got problems seeing images when using www.duckduckgo.com, I recommend to put duckduckgo on the block list and only use k9.

With k9safesearch I'm still able to watch images but no triggers!

Google might be difficult to block when putting in k9 block list. Please try to put the link in Qustodio and any other link which k9 fails to block.

Also after contacting k9 support about www.yandex.com showing images on mobile phone, they have updated the mobile version. Yandex won't show images anymore on my phone.

Firefox internet browser

I totally forgot to mention which internet browser I use. I only use firefox as my search engine, as according to duckduckgo.com, is the safest browser. Firefox also works great when using porn filters.
If your porn filter does not work correctly, perhaps changing into another web browser might help. For example, please add google chrome in the block list in Qustodio.

You guys can easily block images on Google and also block any site you want. You don't have to download k9 etc. I used to use k9 but it slows my Internet speed for some reason then I found out that you could go into the Google settings and block anything you want. It Works!!

Hello,

It has been years since I last posted. Unfortunate, porn filters didn't work for me! My deepest apologize for everyone who red my journals and still got hooked on porn. I am starting my journal over again.

Every time I could not stop myself trying to bypass the filter. When I felt horny or stressed out for instance, I had to find something to get off. When I did succeeded bypassing the filter, I got a dopamine BOOM in my brain! From relapsing by just watching women in clothes in google images (yes I was so horny I did this many time) to unlimited porn material in HD! That is just too much stimulation! It felt like that, because after weeks of not being able to watch any content, I could watch everything and most of the time, I would watch as much content as I could before putting the filter back on, because I knew I wanted to block content again. I spend more time trying to bypass the filter and after a relapse, I spend even more time to make sure I couldn't bypass the filter. This was an endless cycle of repetition. All of my energy wasted. Instead I should have put all my energy into working on my dreams, working on myself getting better with insight and understanding in the root cause of addictions.

I red ''the best rebooting advice'' written by theunderdog, best insight I red and now I am doing the recovery workshop from www.recoverynation.com. I just started with lesson 1. I am very disappointed and sad how many years I wasted fighting this addiction. 4,5 years of fighting this addiction since I posted on rebootnatoin. I should have done the workshop from recoverynation back then. But I didn't because I thought it was too much time and effort to complete.

I am not sure to stay on rebootnation or go away and start my new journal on recoverynation.

I would only recommend using porn filters for someone else like having children.

I've been at this 5 years or so too. Porn blockers NEVER worked. Im finding the truth is, especially when your a bad case... anything digitally sexual can set off those porn pathways... you cant avoid it. and when you've abstained for more then 2 weeks... anything can arouse you to be honest and set off the dopamine and make you spiral. It's about developing a mentality of making yourself ignore sexual images in any media that might unintetionally produce it, and of course making the decision... not using software.. to not allow yourself to watch porn. If you peak at sexual images in other avenues... guess what you've already likely screwed yourself and will slowly escalate whether its youtube video onto porn. hell i binged on sexual youtube videos for weeks and it felt the exact same as bingeing on porn.

I wish I knew this before about porn filters. Someone (was it Dave? I don't know anymore) already told me they do not work if a person keeps trying to bypass the filter. Back then I thought having urges are inevitable. No that is not true. Urges can be dealt with or prevented.  I bet all porn addicts will try to bypass any filter and they will most likely succeed. That is why I do not recommend using porn filters anymore.

You are totally right my friend! Exactly! We still fire our brains with dopamine. Doesn't matter if we watch porn or not. If it turns me on, I am still wiring my brain back into addiction. That is why for me, the chaser effect is so difficult to overcome.

what i've come to realise with those like myself who are quite a severe case is that.. your addicted mind seeks out subsitutes. when im 1-2 months into abstaining i start glancing around look at women in public wearing revealing outfits to get that 'sexual/dopamine kick or fix'.  Its really about i think, not only removing all digital stimuli but also avoiding excessive sexual thoughts or behaviours like the one i mentioned, it leads to realspe and slows recovery. i've come to realise this isn't just an addiction you need to fight against when your on your phone or computer. I've gone through the period of reaching 3-6 months numerous times to realise this. The easypeasy book i have to say helped a lot, worth a read, good bit on subsitiues in that book.

I am afraid you are right and you just wrote very informative and insightful why nobody should use porn software. Beating this addiction takes more then just not watching on my computer or phone. Exactly what you wrote is what I experience many many times. I am also a severe case.

What I have learned so far dealing with thoughts is this:

To stop my sexual thoughts, I use the 2 second rule. I only have 2 seconds to stop urges from happening. If I keep thinking, I will get aroused and then I can't stop myself anymore. But within those 2 seconds I can stop myself more easily, I feel like the body needs more time to get aroused. I use breathing exercise and visualization to erase the image in my mind.

Even if I stop myself after 2 seconds, it will be much more difficult to get through the day and thoughts even can appear in my dreams. Eventually it will get me if not today, tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. After 21 days of pmo free, I am much stronger to say no to arousels but one relapse causes me to get stuck for months in the chasereffect.

Now I realize I probably have to stop watching women in the real world or any as you wrote 'addicted minds seeks out substitutes'' to heal myself. Very sad but insightful. Someone with the name: bigbookofpenis has a technic called '' the no arousel methode''  I only added a time limit to his methode.

According to him, every oogling causes the body to experience a mini orgams. A dopamine hit but in a small dosis. His methode is basically not looking at women, no peeking, no nothing, and just looking down when walking outside. I never thought I would go that far and today I started doing it! Kinda sad but I have no choice. It doesn't matter for me if a women has revealing cloths or just wears normal cloths. I get turned on whenever a women is around if I find her attractive.

Is that the title of the book ''The easypease? Many books on amazon has that title but it doesn't seems like what your are talking about.
