Stupid TV

Hi.
I am annoyed about  television. Everywhere is porn or girls with big melons. I was watching f&f and saw this girl in bikini. I didn't fantasize or MO but I didn't change a channel. Should I stop watching tv or I can watch but only movies for kids like Scooby-Doo ?
I am on 45 day of my reboot but I don't want to lose progress because of tv.

Watching TV and coming across material like a girl in a bikini is very different from seeking it out. If you are aware that a certain movie or TV show contains erotic material then you should avoid them, if you unintentionally come across an erotic scene then look away, we can't stop watching TV forever. Best of luck.

Hey Danny,

Yeah. I get your point.

Ehhh... What can I tell you - I switched to sport on TV. I like football (soccer) a lot, and I watch Premier League games and shortcuts and that.

Other TV material - most of it is unsafe for us. That's what I think. I noticed, as you did, that there is a lot of sex, sexual allusions. Most women on TV play to the the stereotype of sexy bimbo, totally not in sync with women you come across in real life.

Two observations/tips:

1. Not everywhere on TV are women with big breasts. If you notice they are "everywhere" you are probably watching the wrong channels ie. those where such material pops up. Watch out for that, bro.

2. My other golden tip - if you are to watch anything that has any sexual or potentially arousing elements - watch it with someone else. This addiction feeds on secrecy, you will be amazed by the difference between watching alone and watching with someone else. This other form just doesn't hit the addiction button. Try.

My husband agrees with the assessment of un-necessary exposure to sex be it clothing or language.  He simply mutes and averts his eyes.  Do he and I miss out on a little dialog?  Yes.  But this is just something he does because he has realized the motive behind sex everywhere.  Even non-porn addicts notice this by the way.

Thanks for replies.
I think i will watch tv but I will look away if I will see any dangerous scenes. I am watching with family so I don't think I will do what I was doing times ago. Anyway now i will be careful and look away when adverts will start or bikini girls will cover the screen ;)

Hey Danny, I feel the same way- its crazy when I notice how much sex is out there its literally everywhere in ads for everything from toothpaste to baseball bats and whatever.

I think that its a good thing to notice this though- I take it as being more mindful as I'm really understanding what I'm seeing which makes it less subliminal and I don't know why but it feels like that has to be a good thing. I try to use it too in strengthening my resolve to change- I don't want to be another sheep in society just wandering around soaking up porn and oversexed images 24/7.

Excellently put, Blah432 - that's exactly the way I see it as well. It's not just TV or something else, it's our entire so-called culture that is infused with sex. It's revolting when you think about it!
The best we can do is educate ourselves about the repercussions (which is why we're here I suppose) and spread the word. Facing this issue is far more of being a "man" than being dumbfounded by every piece of skin we lay our eyes on.

That's a difficult topic. In the past weeks I have been thinking a lot about what I may/can/should still watch and what not. How much of a fantasy is ok? Which of the sexual desires are "healthy" and which are not?

If you watch F&F and you get turned on by women in bikini I'd say that's alright, as long as your fantasies don't go any further. When you see these women...are your thoughts like "wow, she's beautiful! She is sexy! I'd love to kiss her"? If so, I don't see a problem. But as soon as you imagine that person acting in your favorite porn settings or make her do specific actions you know from your addiction, you should stop your brain. If you can't: switch the channel.

Anyway, you are right: if you stop exposing yourself to porn, you start to realize how much of it has infiltrated regular TV. Same stuff, only labeled as "family friendly".

I understand that TV is an important part of family life, so just stopping the evening ritual would be nonsense. However, I do want to encourage everyone to give a TV-free life a shot.

Apart from the obvious intention of reducing explicit material, you will realize what massive influence media ha on the people around you. You will risk not being able to talk with your friends about the latest talent shows, but really, what significant opinion can David Hasselhoff offer anyway?!
