This is just another way your addict mind wants to avoid the pain and hardship of what it takes to get a real genuine life. There's no substitute for reality.
Look on the bright side, you've saved $50.
Put that $50 towards some self-improvement books and actually read them and internalise some of the principles. That will be the best $50 you've ever spent.
