Question For Teens

Teens: I have four questions I'd love to hear your answers to. Thanks!

1) Do your parents know you're addicted to porn/erotica?

2) Have you thought about or actually asked your parents to help you break your addiction to porn/erotica?

3) What advice would you give to parents who want to help protect their kids from developing addictions to porn/erotica?

4) How informed do you think parents are about their kids' accessibility to porn/erotica?

For me, 1) my parents have no idea. 2) I've thought about it a lot, but have always decided against it. This is because I expect their reaction would be to take away my laptop, possibly punish me additionally, start monitoring me very closely and tell me how awful I am for getting into this. Plus, I don't think it would really have any positive outcomes for me nor them. 3) I would advise said parents not to equate sexuality with shame in their household, teach their kids about what to expect from puberty before puberty, be someone they can trust to talk to and educate them on the facts. Teach them about the sex industry, share testimonies of those who've been in the industry, talk about how sexually explicitly material affects their hearts, brains and relationships. And of course, support them as persons, do your best to create an environment that meets your kids' needs. Loneliness, stress, boredom, rejection and discouragement are all things that can send them running to escapism like porn or erotica. 4) I think most parents are quite oblivious.

1) i told my parents my penis felt dead he said it was puberty. I never metioned pmo
2) no i cant tell them. They will never look at me the same again.
3) Warn their child. It wont be awkward. It will be life risking if you dont tell them
4) barely informed, they dont even know the dangers of pmo

1) Nope. When I forgot to lock the door my sister came in on me once but I played it off as me itching my crotch. (I happened to be under my blanket 'cuz it was morning.

2) HELL NO

3) Setup history logging on your router, when you see that stuff, have a talk but don't pressure them or make it awkward.

4) Not very well. I know almost every guy at my school, only one of their parents know about it and once they found out, they made it awkward and grounded him. I think he jerked to magazines during that time.

1) My mom and dad both know that I'm addicted to P. I told my dad about a couple of months ago and my mom just a couple of days ago.

2) I asked my mom and dad both for support and asked my mom to make every device in the house P proof which she did a couple of days ago.

3) Personally, I believe it's important to try and explain the huge differences between sex in P and real sex (when the time is right or when they are the right age). I think that's the main thing that would have helped me stay away from P at such a young age. The first time I unintentionally saw P was at the age of 5. I didn't know what it was and didn't seek it out, I'm just saying. I first starting looking at pics at age 8-9. Then I starting watching softcore P on hbo at 12-13. My first time watching hi speed internet P was around 14. I got into hardcore P at 17-18 which is about the same time I started to develop a serious problem and began to become aware of it. I'm 21 now and have been fighting for 3 1/2 years. I finally told my my parents because I was tired of failing over and over again. Now that everything in the house is P proof, 8 I physically can't relapse. I think this will make all the difference in the long run.

4. I think this depends on a lot of factors. All in all however, I don't think parents are that informed at all. In a lot of cases that I've seen firsthand the parents never catch their kids due to the privacy that they have with smartphones. It's a much different time now I believe. Back then when I was watching P on the Tv or comp, it was much harder to keep a secret since I was out in the open. Now kids can look at it on their phone and their parents would never know cuz of it.
