Greetings~

Am I the OLDEST new member here?
I am a 60 y/o guy who is BRAND NEW to this site and even didn't even realize I was so "effected" by porn until just recently! (I read the article in TIME magazine a few months back)

This is my very FIRST posting and I am searching out other people (men or women) to guide me through this process of participating on this site....What is the correct steps to take?
*I feel somewhat overwhelmed with it all- which brings on MORE anxiety than I usually have.

Can anyone PLEASE assist me on what to do? I would TRULY appreciate any advice/guidance/ or suggestions from you.
I welcome any questions you have to steer me in the right direction. I really need to deal with this issue after having severe ED for the past 2+ yrs....its just NOW (through reading the postings an articles here) that I definitely see a connection! I have struggled with addictive behaviors my whole life.

Again- thank you for connecting with me! Hope to hear from someone soon.

Snap,

Let's see. Since I am going to be 60 in a couple of months I guess you are older that I am.  ;) but seriously, there are quite a few that are our age and sticking with a plan will make a difference. Its not easy. Its not quick. But it does work.

Here are my big three for any newbies:

  • Read as much as you can. I will add some links when I locate them
  • Write about your progress/process in your own journal.
  • Make comments in other journals. You never know how your comments may help someoen else

Another biggy is to not beat yourself up during this process. It is not linear. It can be but typically it isn't. That means you may have set-backs. Don't worry. We have all been there.

Pick yourself up. Dust off. And learn what happened to take you away from your goal. Shame and frustration are porn's allies. They are what give pron its power. Don't let them suck you in.

Oh, and I would encourage you to come back to the same journal entry. Just post a reply to your own posting to continue on with your journal, either this one or Breaking out of Guilt...

I thought your name was familiar.

Peace

Hey BOB~
I want to thank you SOOOOO Much for reaching out to me and offering me some "beginners advise".
I definitely will follow your suggestions and do my work each day to gather info & friends.
If there are any other "tips" that you feel are beneficial- I'll take them al! :)

Here's some questions (Don't know if I should post them HERE in my log?)
Should I seek out and pick up a "Accountability partner" ASAP?
Should I use THIS journal listing to ask general questions of everyone and the OTHER Journal  to give my daily progress and story?
OR just use ONE for both functions?

IF anyone "out there" can offer ideas and suggestions- It would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks again.

Hey Snap,

First, I would use one journal to do everything. It keeps things clean and organized.

As for the accountability partner, I waited to spend some time here before I attempted to connect with someone as an accountability partner. It gave me a chance to "get to know" folks. An accountability partner should be someone that you agree with (in terms of the reboot process) and someone you feel comfortable with. To find someone like that on RN, it takes time. I would give it time.

Here are two journals/posts from individuals that have made it through this process and whose legacy is a testament to this process. I have a great deal of respect for both of them.

This is must see if you haven't viewed Gary Wilson's video

Keep asking, keep posting!
