giving it my all!

Hey everyone!  I just found this site yesterday, while researching the effects of porn on the brain.  This is my second Attempt in six months to give it up, and I have a few questions.  First, I'm on my 5th day of quitting, and i was wondering if it was to early to be suffering from the withdrawals.  I woke up today, angry, depressed, and full of self loathing.  I'm also sort of recovering from an eating disorder, so I'm not sure if my lack my appetite from that, or the withdrawals.  Last question:  In one of the videos I watched on this site, i was told to avoid social media and YouTube.  I watch a few workout videos on YouTube.  One of them is instructed by a fairly attractive female in yoga pants demonstrating poses that could be considered semi erotic, and the other has a female participating wearing nothing but booty shorts and a sports bra.  Are those going to effect my reboot?  neither of theses videos give me that desire to look at porn, but they are attractive females made of pixels on a screen.  Thanks in advance!

Hi.  Welcome.

As for withdrawals, I got them, literally, within hours of quitting.  In fact, if we are being real, by the time we are addicted, one of the main things we do every day is get our fix to sooth our withdrawals. Put another way, we PMO daily in order to quiet the discomfort of the withdraw that comes the longer we don't use, so, yeah, you can withdraw in only 5 days.

The videos you describe are very unhelpful to you in the reboot.  One of the things the addiction does, once you deny it P, is to look for P substitutes, things not defined as "P", but something to give your brain a bit of the dopamine you deny it, once you remove porn.  So, during the hard 90, the reboot, avoid those type of things.

Hope it helps.

Will I AM.

Yeah, I remember the first couple of weeks being pretty tough. I felt irritable and jittery. For some reason I craved coffee, which was strange because I rarely drink coffee. I'm just over 4 months clean now and even though there are still triggers and days that are challenging, I feel great both physically and mentally. Good luck!

The first three weeks I was pretty much lying on the couch the whole time. I had no energy and didn't feel like doing anything. I would avoid the yoga video's. What you realize when your quitting porn is that you become easily aroused by sexual cues. So those female yoga instructors might not now trigger anything but as you go longer without porn they'll start to become more attractive and arousing.

Thanks guys for all of the advice and incite! Doing the workout videos shouldn't be difficult without the visual cues, if that is what it takes! I can't thank you guys enough!

Notes and Questions:

(1)
"I'm on my 5th day of quitting"

Answer:

- Please don't count the days, because it is not an indicator of success.
Success is matter of what you do now, and what are avoiding NOW.

- Quitting

Please don't name it as quitting, You Know, as if you are sacrificing or missing a lot of fun there.

change your mind set to be " I am releasing the need of (X) as i thought it is good and fun, but it was very harmful with bad consequences"

(2)
" i was wondering if it was to early to be suffering from the withdrawals"

Answer:

- The more you give attention to withdrawals, the more harder it becomes

Action To Do:

- Is to set and plan for new good habits, activities, something you enjoy but not harmful.

LIKE: reading, going out, sport, exploring,

Answer:

THE BIG BAD THING NEVER COMES IN A SINGLE STEP, IT IS JUST A FEW OF A SMALL SINGLE STEPS COLLECTED TOGETHER TO TAKE YOU NEARER TO THE BIG BAD ACTION, SO IT BECOMES EASY TO DO, IN-HAND, AND VERY NEAR.

SIMPLY WE DON'T GO NEAR TO THE SHIT, BEING FAR MAKES IT MORE EASY TO HANDLE AND TO DECIDE. AS WE HAVE A CLEAR AND CLEAN MINDS.

EXAMPLE;

Smoking cigarettes, let me put in order.

1) you know one of your friends started to smoke
2) you go out and set with your friends who smoke
3) you still reject the idea of smoking
4) a suggestion from one of your FUCKEN friends to give it a try.
5) You accept the thought
6) YOu try.
7) YOu may like it.

and so ON.

The problem is not in NO (7), it is no (2) as you accepted to go out with them while they are doing something bad, by the time your mind accepted this activity, and as our brains are always seeking novality and to try something new, it will recommend and push you to try it.  WHY NOT ??

Action:

Answer these Questions:

1- Define this activity, is it trigger  you or remind you to watch porn?

(Yes/NO)

I believe it is YES :D

2- Do i have alternatives?

(Yes/No)

Yes you have, be honest.

3- What to do to stay in a safe environment?

A)The first channel, for re-programming your brain to have a lovely life is your EYES.

Choose carefully what to look at, and what to not.

B) Define your triggers, reminders, and minimize them.

C) Check below replase indicators:

It did no harm to me. I don't think it's bad for everyone . It gives you a goal and a purpose.

To the OP - I know we've all got a different take on it, but to my mind what people think of as withdrawals is mostly habit.

I'd look at porn to manage my emotions, or because it was a Saturday night, etc.

I'd recommend observing the habitual side of your porn use, particularly the emotions that trigger you.

Try not to worry about it, enjoy it as a journey into self-awareness. Fear is a trap (because porn is where we hide).
