Does looking up for P count as a relapse?

So I have been going 11 days straight no PMO and today I searched for P on the web and might have seen a few P pics and text...

But did not watch anything. Did not PMO either

Does this count as a relapse?

In my opinion no, but...this should be avoided as it is searching for triggers.  While I personally do not consider it a relapses, it is on the path to relapse.  You used the phrase "searched for porn", meaning you did not just come across it, you went looking for it.  That is dangerous to one in recovery.  Understand that porn is just the button we push to get a dopamine high.  But that dopamine high is a reward, naturally, not for seeing porn, not even for sex, but for searching for sex.  That is why we do not fixate on one image, but can spend hours "looking" for the one that does it for us.  Don't beat yourself up from this, but learn from it.  Again, the point here is to get clean.  That usually takes 90 days or so, so just focus on avoiding P in that time frame.  P alone can elevate dopamine levels, be aware of that.  During the 90 day reboot the purpose is to lower dopamine levels, so searching for P is going the wrong direction.

Peace.

William, I wish I saw your reply earlier, if I did I might not have relapsed today.  I relapsed today giving myself stupid excuses such as if I don't do this I will have pain from "Blue Balls"... I went 12 days straight without PMO and it is longest I've ever gone in my life since I started Ming.

Anyway after this I will go for straight 90 days without PMO and I will definitely definitely prove to myself that I will kill my addiction!

Btw, today I felt how the dopamine theory is correct because as I was watching it I fel my brain filling with something ... somehting that made it feel warm and fuzzy and it didnt feel that good. Addiction.Must.Be.Killed.

hi there.

you decide what you see as a relapse an what not. However, you also decide whether you lie to yourself or not.

If you watch Porn and your aim is not to PMO - then it is not a relapse - technically....because the effect is the same....
sad but true and I made the same experience today.

If you want to go clean with all this the first step is to tell yourself the truth and to be strict to yourself. Nothing else helps.

Hi Triptonicmaph, we all have to learn about rationalizations and the way the addiction tries to trick us, or talk us in, to relapsing.  No one has ever died from blue balls.  I know the condition is uncomfortable, but being uncomfortable on multiple levels is something that most addicts have to go through to get clean.  That is withdrawals.  If there were a training manual for overcoming porn addiction withdrawals, how to recognize them, what they feel like, why we feel them, how long they last, and how they try and talk us into relapsing, would probably take up about 1/3 of the manual.  12 days is a good run, but understand that between 0 and 90 days, you are going to have to go through the valley of withdrawals, which often are hitting pretty hard day 12.  Those feelings are actually a good thing.  I know they suck, they are the shakes, the sweats, blue balls, false aches and pains, super high anxiety, and sometimes actual terror, but if you are feeling them, it means your dopamine levels are coming down, and getting them down and keeping them down is absolutely necessary to overcoming this problem.  You know that euphoria you feel when engaging in the addiction, well withdrawals are that but in the negative.  Once you get clean and rebalanced, you will feel good when you have a reason to, and you will feel bad when you have a reason to, but you will be off the dopamine roller coaster of porn addiction, and that is a great feeling.

Good luck to you.

Peace.

It's a lapse if porn was the target.
I used to tease myself with stuff like this once in a while during my reboot.
Run a search and barely see the pics and trying to fool myself that it wasn't the same as
full on viewing.
Or rub my crotch with clothes still on and not counting that as jacking off even though
I was being stimulated.
My advice...just stay clear from all that stuff.

Thank you once again for your wonderful replies! Once again you have widened my narrowed vision about this topic. Let's hope I won't post such questions again because I will start being honest with myself and going 90 days straight!

Thank you for your great reply. I too, did the same things you decribed in your answer and now that I am not being controlled by my addiction at the moment I can see how foolish my actions were yesterday right before my relapse. Thank you again for letting me know that I am not the only one who went through such things.

You are right, I was cheating myself yesterday eventhough I thought otherwise. Thank you for your reply. Appreciate it :)
