This book, by Robert Wright, covers mindfulness/vipassana meditation from an evolutionary psychology perspective. Written with scholarly, secular information from the point of view of a skeptic.
He covers the nature of impulses, emotions, and thoughts. The modular view of the mind. How consciousness is not the "CEO" of the self. He talks about the illusion of self control and how mindfulness, at its core, is essential for overcoming addictions (he even uses porn addiction as an example).
Without getting into too much esoteric stuff, all I can say is that I strongly recommend this book. It's a fairly short read but I've already found it immensely helpful for putting things into perspective and having a real understanding of how dopamine, impulses, and cravings work.
I personally do not think that you can successfully recover from PMO addiction without an understanding of mindfulness - otherwise you will simply try to block/suppress urges - doesn't work.
