Simple Advice

I got a erection, which I have been struggling with for some time and it was stiff, it took awhile to go away and for a little while I got some other erections. It's now stopped and now I'm getting pre cum from time to time, which  I had months before. I thought it all cleared up and now it's back. I do get triggers sometimes, but it doesn't bother me and I do not watch porn or masturbate. Am I doing something bad, I believe having pre cum is a bad sign and I don't really want to start messing around with my dopamine levels. Could the triggers be causing problems for me and am I going back into bad habits, which I don't believe I am.

Chill.  We ARE sexual beings, that will never go away and we should not want it to.  It is about not letting porn control you.  Not being a slave to it.  If you don't want to mess around with your dopamine levels, then don't mess around with your dopamine levels.  Just that simple.  The thing about triggers is, whether they trigger a relapse or not, they definitely trigger a dopamine spike.  Avoid them.  One of the first things I tell myself in the morning when I get up is, "no porn today."

Hope this helps.

Much love.

I thought relapsing leads to porn and masturbating? although I do try to avoid triggers it's kind of hard for me because I carry on reading manga witch is related to what I used to be addicted to hentai (manga) but because of my situation I have not got much else I can do at the moment. I don't watch porn or masturbate and don't intentionally seek these triggers either.

My advice, avoid it all for your 90 day reboot.  That means no porn, no hentai, no manga.  Think of it as a limited time in your life to achieve a long term fix.

I aware that I must avoid porn and hentai that's a given, but could I go back to manga after recovery, because I enjoy it, but obviously I realize my health is more important?

I don't know.  I think that when giving up porn we have to give up more than just porn.  Porn is not just porn, for addicts, it is any artificial sexual stimulation that causes a dopamine spike.  It is anything other than reality that causes a dopamine spike.  There are things, things not porn, what I call porn substitutes, that must be avoided, especially during the reboot.  I don't know what your manga has, I don't know if you like it because of the stories, or because it has something sexual that gives you a dopamine spike.  If you are getting artificial sexual stimulation from it, it has to go, but if you just like the story, it is OK.  Remember, we are not really addicted to porn, it is just a button we push to get our drug of choice, that being dopamine.  If porn did not give us a dopamine spike, it would be about as interesting as watching an egg boil, meaning we would not get hooked on it.  So, what is your manga, a story or a dopamine spike?  Only you can know.

Peace.

I do enjoy the story and character development , there are times which I will get triggers, but I usually ignore them. You are right it might be best that I go cold for 90 days and avoid manga, but I'm not sure if it is something I can completely ignore in the future, because of the enjoyment. Maybe I will have something else in my life I am not sure. I have been off porn since February 2014 and have not relapsed. I think it's a case of avoiding the triggers, but it can be hard especially when you aint aware of the content.

I love movies.  I love going out to see a movie, I love to watch a good movie on cable or Netflix.  Some of the movies I love are hard R rated.  During the reboot I either did not watch them, or I actually closed my eyes or looked away during the sex scenes.  Why?  I knew they were going to trigger me.

Now, after I am rebooted, they do not trigger me.  But that is because I took time away from them during the reboot.  I cannot know your exact situation, but I do know that if there is the possibility a manga will trigger you, I advise giving it a break during the 90 day reboot.  After that, it may be no big deal.  During the reboot I would give the same advice for a lot of comic books, the ones that draw the impossibly built women wearing only dental floss; avoid it during the reboot.  There is a method to getting clean and this is part of the method--taking time to re-sensitize the brain's reward pathways to realty.  Your brain will rebalance, but you need to help it by not giving it any artificial dopamine spikes.  Using anything that is not reality to get a dopamine spike is just prolonging the problem, not solving it.

I see a lot of guys here come up with reasons not to get clean,to keep using, to trigger, but, seriously, just get clean and you will have a completely new perspective on a lot of things, and a lot of things you have to avoid during the reboot will no longer be problematic for you.  You will never be able to go back to watching porn of course, and you won't want to, but a lot of the things that trigger you during the reboot, the porn substitutes, etc., just won't trigger you after you successfully reboot.  That takes about 90 days and I suggest you go hard mode unless you have a real, living and breathing sexual partner with a pulse that you can feel.  And....I am not talking about your hand.

Peace.

Ok thank you for your time. I am like this because there isn't a lot in my life I can't do at the moment, and I can't tell you exactly why. But I am recovering from other stuff as well as a injury so I kind of got nothing else to do. But I will work harder. I will never go back to porn of any type, mainly because of the stress it has put me through. Thank you anyway :)
