Best blocker

I posted this is the betrayed partners forum but thought I’d post here too in case people have insights.

I’m really disappointed with net nanny. I recently tested it out on my husband’s computer, who is addicted to porn, and learned that it does not block explicit images/nudity on google images. It only blocks if you click on the image and go to a prohibited site. You can still see all the smut so it defeats the purpose of having a blocker. Also, the custom content filters are BS. I spent hours plugging in names of pornstars and potential triggers only to learn they all pop up on google images. Also, I don’t see a way to monitor what keyword searches he’s doing. I only get notified if he goes to an explicit website. Am I missing something? Is this how net nanny works? Is there a better blocker out there for porn addicts that allows the partner to control/monitor what is seen? I feel so defeated. I know I’ll never be able to make porn disappear completely but it’d be nice to block more of all the smut out there.

I use a combination of Remojo and Qustodio, while I think Remojo is way better.

Remojo blocks a lot of sites, but I can't say if it's Remojo or Qustodio that block nude images on Google (which one of them is doing for sure). Adding sites and apps to Remojo is very easy. It's the best intuitive app I've tested so far. It has many more features such as an own community, podcasts, oversight protection, uninstall protection (currently not for Windows 10 but this feature will come out in the next weeks). You can check out their website to get an overview of their feature list. There is a free trial aswell.

It's programmed by someone who struggled with porn himself, which I find very awesome :)

I also recommend that you create an administrator on his computer and make him a default user, so he needs to ask for your PIN to install/uninstall programs.

Thank you slyrack! Do either of those platforms allow you to create custom filters so certain keywords do not pull up any search results? In other words, those attempted searches are blocked?

No, that's not possible, but Qustodio (don't know if Remojo does it also) enforces safe search via Google and YouTube. That way it's nearly impossible to search for nude images. Ofc it's still possible to search for porn star images still, but only images with these pornstars wearing clothes will appear :)

I recommend you to try out if Remojo also enforces safe search. I experienced that Qustodio doesn't block as many p*** sites as Remojo.

Another question—is there an app that blocks porn on Facebook? I want my husband to be able to use FB but I don’t want him accessing pornographic content.

I don't think there is an app that can.

Otherwise, for what do you want your husband to use Facebook?
If it's only for texting purposes you might be able to block Facebook itself, but not the Messenger.

You can of course block specific Facebook profiles/sites, if that helps somehow.
