What up Reboot Nation,

Just letting you know that a popular daytime TV show "Katie" will be covering porn addiction tomorrow on ABC I believe at 3pm (not sure about time zone differences) Wednesday July 2nd

I got a few seconds on the show to share my story of porn-induced ED so hopefully it will help raise awareness to the issue. I'll post the link to the full show as soon as I have it.

EDIT: Below is the link to the show. First 3 vids are the parts about porn. I had a few seconds to talk in the second vid. Wish I had a chance to chime back in and correct some of what was said... but oh well.. I still got the point across that porn can CAUSE problems, and PIED is not simply a "result" of pre-existing issues. Hope it raised awareness

I watched the episode, and I liked it a lot. It seemed like Katie Couric (and the audience) sympathized a lot more with Gabe and the other lady who supported P addiction. But it was very funny watching the guy who opposed porn addiction be embarrassed on television

This man David Ley just from a logic perspective (I have no scientific background) seemed slightly off in his standpoints.

Just because there's no "shred scientific of evidence" linking porn use and ED doesnt mean its not a thing. "In most of the studies that are being published" they're linking it to smoking, drug use, health, stress, relationship and anxiety because I'm guessing those are the variables theyre looking to investigate in those studies. Theyre not even considering porn use directly as a variable, probly cos this is a new thing. 'Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence." Even if he is in the end proved right and it isn't porn that leads to ED (who knows, maybe he or some other study will find something miraculous - all sufferers have some hidden 'overstimulation ED gene' or whatever haha), for him to deny outright, given even a basic background in academic work, which he of course has, seems deceitful and misleading - he should know better.

'It's not addictive, it's a person's choices'... pple could say the exact same thing about alcohol or smoking or whatever else and with what we know now they would be laughed at and frowned upon for being ignorant... Sure at first it's a choice but it's now accepted the brain becomes addictive to those things if we're not careful. For him to say that with the pictures of the brain scans from CAmbridge right on screen indicating the same brain changes are taking place as with those 'indulgences' as with porn is almost hilarious. The psycholigist lady should have been more vocal to balance his extreme view to not skew the takeaway feeling.... like Couric says to him to sum it up 'we can debate whether it's addictive or not'... ummm the brain scan imaging right there is showing signs of addiction. It's not really such a 50/50 debate.

Way to go Gabe! You only had a few sentences but managed to convey your story and problem clearly. I know "eye-witness" testament is the worst basis to use for scientific evidence but after hearing your story and the other man's I can't quite see why David Ley would be so extremely dismissal of the idea.

You said it well Gabe in those few seconds. It was a dick move from Ley to follow with other causes for ED like smoking, drug use, health, stress, relationship and anxiety. He might be right that there are other environmental factors leading to ED, but he does not reveal to which age group he is referring and if respondents in those studies even have history of porn abuse. It could be factors that affect us but why is he so against the idea main leading cause for ED (especially in young males) is porn. As he pointed out there are not a lot of studies supporting this idea because the idea itself is something fairly new. Like rebooterer said: "he should know better", as an academic.

Good job speaking out the truth Gabe! That Dr. Ley seems like he is in complete denial. I think the only reason why he refuses to at least acknowledge that this is an addiction is because of that book he wrote. He doesn't want to "go back on his word" but deep down inside when he goes to bed tonight I know he will think to himself "Wow, this PEID stuff must be real".

I think "Dr" Ley came across as a dolt!
Hahaha my exact words after he finished speaking "ahhh, what a dolt"

Man, it's a shame a lot of people will never be exposed to the amount of anecdotes everyone on these forums have

Gabe, I think you did an excellent job at illustrating the fact that you were a normal kid and that it can happen to anyone. I believe there is a section about p addiction on my nations "60 minutes" style program, I'll post it on the forum if I can get the link after it airs.

I agree, that was compact and precise. I'm thinking the producers asked you to keep it that way but you managed to get the point across.
The dude on the panel quickly followed what you said by saying there isn't a shred of evidence linking ED to
porn addiction. How much more evidence does he need?
Why is it a phenomenon now and not before?
He claims that it's from stress and other pre-existing conditions?
The only thing that didn't pre-exist before was high speed internet and as we all know on this forum,
combine that with porn and you're on the fast track to PIED.

What frustrates me about issues like this is that unless a so-called respected university does a study,
no one considers any other form of evidence that proves this is going on with old and younger guys.
