Weinstein etc. in the news

I certainly hope this is the tipping point. We now have a critical mass of women who are prepared to speak out, and the more high profile women who come forward, the easier it is for the rest of us to speak out. We have to kick this shit to the curb. We have to call out the misogynists, the rapists and the abusers. The old feminist saying that ?porn is the theory, rape is the practice? has turned out to be a chilling prediction. The account of Weinstein?s behaviour I read about today is an example of that. To some men, Weinstein was living the dream, every encounter a living reproduction of a porn clip. But what gets erased from the dream is the woman?s consent, the woman?s safety, the woman?s feelings, woman?s pleasure. The woman is just an interchangeable fuck object. In real life, for the woman, it?s living a nightmare.

I?m highlighting this post in the Partner?s section because I would like to draw attention to the fact that many of us have found that the Weinstein story has triggered our own personal memories of sexual assault and harassment. #YesAllWomen #MeToo

Those of us who have been on the receiving end of unwanted predatory sexual behaviour DO see the parallels between this behaviour and pornography. FFS, Weinstein was acting out typically porny shit on his victims. The people who used us as throwaway sex toys were treating us like some kind of porny-rapey cum-dumpsters. I see the parallels between porn culture and rape culture. That?s why this porn shit is so fucking corrosive. On the individual. On the culture.

So I did not like being quoted out of context for what I said on this thread. Not do I like some bro telling me that my attitudes to porn come from some sort of ?limited? knowledge. Unlike him because he?s watched a ton of porn = he?s the expert. Yeah, whatever.....

This section is for Partner?s of PAs yet just about every one of us has been triggered by the recent Weinstein scandal. Every one of us can say #metoo. We can see the parallels between this male privilege and pornography. Most pornography is about heterosexual male entitlement, the female body as the plaything. Make no mistake, this is a gendered issue. Male privilege and the sexual subjugation of women. I used to wonder what ?porn is the theory, rape is the practice? actually meant, but it get it now.

Porn is rape by proxy. Following a woman on the street is rape by proxy. Masturbating at a window or in a car whilst watching a woman or a girl is rape by proxy. These behaviours are unwelcome, unwanted and intrusive. And it feels creepy and threatening once you catch on to what?s happening. #YesAllWomen.

We are the voices of experience. Just what experience does some dude get from watching a ton of porn with his dick in his hand? Like that?s an expert on how we live our lives as women, that what we see, hear and feel counts for nothing compared to all that porny homeschooling? We don?t know what we?re talking about because of our ?limited? experience? #YesAllWomen #MeToo

You know, we?re a pretty resilient lot on here. I mean, just look at all that we?ve lived through and survived. Being in a long term relationship with a porn addict is but one of our experiences but my goddess, we?ve all been through some tough shit. Our lived experiences are what informs us. It just makes me more determined to smash through all this crap that women are supposed to take as being their lot.
