The point about masculinity is an interesting one. Contrary to the reactions from some of the commenters on that post, I think the point is about society's opinions on sexuality (nothing to do with the opinions of a specific gender).
I wonder what a less "emasculated" bunch of men would look like though. The stereotype I think of is men "leading," "taking charge," "being chivalrous," and so on. Not exactly the picture of empowered anything in my head.
Taking charge of your own life though, that's certainly important. Perhaps men turning to porn and video games stems in part from an overall feeling of "lack of control." Where women can feel empowered and have their "sisters" rooting for them to "overcome," men have less of a support structure by default. That is my impression anyway. Ironically, I say it in one of the places where we do have a support structure.
But the point is, fantasy worlds give us a way of pretending that we're in control. Luckily, we can establish real control by saying "no" to those same fantasies. Control could explain fear of commitment, too - anxiety about agreeing to a largely collaborative life experience that you share with another person.
