Day 332

Day 4 of no O

The Flatline

I hear a lot fear these days, fear in men's tired voices
These men are restless as hell, afraid of all their bad choices.
Some constantly check their dick to see if it's alright
Others, like fearful sailors at sea, watch the skies for any portents of plight.
One truthful man says out loud "My Johnson is all over and done!"
While another man inquires "Is it okay if I do one more hit-in-run?"
All of these men are fellow bothers, with a few good-hearted sisters as well
A common question unites us all "How come no one told us about this fucking hell?"

Some are scared out of their minds, because all they can see is today
But they must understand that the future, is paved with today and today and today.
True, no one told us about this shit, yes, no one told us about the consequences
But now truth sounds from the lofty hills and it's time to put up our defenses.
Let us send out the troops for battle, let us batten down the hatches
Let us burn it all down with one glorious box of "Fuck porn" matches!
It's time to shout from the rooftops, it's time to start a new beginning
What one man can do, all men can do, so let's start the damn singing!

If your member has not worked in weeks and you're starting to feel the pressure
Let me remind you of one important detail because you seem to need a refresher.
This has happened to us all, this has happened to even the best
So please quit your constant fretting, you don't need another dick test!
The flatline needs to be embraced, the flatline needs to be cherished
The flatline proclaims loud and clear that the beast inside our minds has perished!
So stop running from your fears and embrace your new inception
Love the man you're becoming and I'll see you at that final grand reception!

I needed this, I know I have been in flatline for almost four months but it definitely feels discouraging. I tried to be positive by reading the success stories but I definitely get more depressed reading about the long flatlines. Specially reading of guys being in 7 to 9 months flatlines.

@Scorpio1990: I'm glad the poem could be of some help to you.

I think it's best to know that a fraction of guys have 7 to 9 years and most only 9 months to a year, and the majority well below that! Positivity is key when it comes to the reboot and it's best to focus on what is more likely to happen. Yes, having our dicks work again is a gigantic part of us men, and no man should feel guilty fretting about it; however, life is a lot more than what's going on downstairs, and the flatline is a good time to work on ourselves and fix our problems so as to never have to worry about getting back in this shit situation ever again!

Best

Love the poem, I'm just getting into this 'flatline', my guess is I'm on day 3 of it. In my opinion it's a good thing, it's the symptom that you're healing. Thanks for it ❤️
Also congrats on hitting the 3 3s ;)

Hey man -- no one has 9 year flatlines, it just doesn't make any sense whatsoever. I cannot on good conscience let something like this float around & discouraging guys like yourself without calling BS.

Your brain can generally heal itself to new within 1yr, that's just how neuroplasticity works. Even Gabe Deem who started masturbating at the age of 8 (8 years old!) and all throughout his teen years / adolescent years was able to have successful sex in 8 months. Not saying you should set this as a bar just because we're all different, but just imagine how extreme that conditioning is for a moment. These are your most vulnerable years and yet Gabe broke free and his libido turned out to be just fine around that 8 months mark. Some guys might take a bit longer too, but I do feel comfortable saying that 99% of guys should be at least mostly healed within 1yr

I definitely believe Gabe that even in the coming years you'll notice improvements, but most of the healing (enough for you to have successful sex) should happen within that first year (maybe you get to 85% in that first year and then get to 95% in the second year and then 100% in the 3rd year -- either way, the difference between 85% and 100% is not big at all and you'll be able to enjoy your regained sex life well before getting to 100%). Other stuff you can do for good function down there is exercise which is proven to be massively beneficial

All to say -- keep your head up man & don't fear that scenario of a multi-year flatline. Just reading it made me want to call BS and tell you there's no need to ever worry about that barring a true medical problem. Part of it is also those guys who claim such long flatlines are just not rewiring at any point / they're getting in the wrong headspace and frankly they've just mentally given up on ever healing (don't ever give up, that's the most damaging thing of all if you get into the 'why try' mentality) -- go put yourself out there maybe 6 months after your reboot and get after it. You can and you will beat this, don't let head games screw you over

Gents, I am no expert on flatline but have had tons of it. We all have it and it’s clearly very normal and a function of brain correction. All our brains are different and have been subjected to different levels of abuse through years of PMO and MO. The brain will fix, that has to be true. The speed of the fix is up to us and our discipline. My therapist said if and when we leave masturbation behind and stop fantasising then the brain will be mending at its fastest. When it’s mending and you’re through the early phase I think serious flatline kicks in. Theoretically when we’re mending then, we should expect flatline and love it. It will drag on if we MO and/or edge. We control the flatline.

Your right, I definitely meant months, I typed that up half asleep thinking about the flatline line all night.
Gotcha yeah that's more reasonable. Though again 9 months for a flatline also feels a bit too long just given the way our brains heal. I had a few flatlines in my first 90 days but they were all brief

Thanks @sho0fl, I'm glad you liked it! It was fun to write.

Keep killing it brother.

@Scorpio1990, @First_step_thousand_miles, @Escapeandnevercomeback and @GBS: Thanks guys for your input.

The flatline is interesting because it shows itself differently to different people. Some hardly even notice anything and just move on with no big deal, while others experience it coming and going for quite some time, yes even past nine months (See my man @zander13). I think the biggest issue with the flatline, and what I was trying to zone in on with my poem, is that it's very easy to get stuck in your head about all of this, instead of living in the moment and enjoying your recovery and the new man that is blossoming before your eyes.

Personally, when I was easily 14 or 15 months clean, I still thought I had some really small "flatlines" that lasted for a few days at a time, and then it was back to normal again. Was this all in my head and I was just suddenly not feeling sexual? I don't think so. These were mini flatlines, the same that I had experienced since the beginning, however, over the months they became fewer and fewer and their duration of time smaller and smaller. But this is me, so that's all I can speak for.

However, each of us here are different and has had a different experience with porn, what age we started, how often we did it, etc., thus, our experiences with the flatline will be different. It might last 9 months, and might last 3 months, but none of these numbers matter.

We're not quitting porn to get our dicks back, we're quitting porn to get our lives back! Our dicks are part of the equation, but they're not the final destination.

I want the whole package, I want the whole deal, and I will settle for nothing else!

So don't compare yourself to others, just compare yourself with the man you were a few months ago. Some here go Hard mode or Monk mode, and some do not (yours truly) and that's okay, just stay the course that's working for you. All that matters is don't look at porn and don't masturbate to anything sexual. Masturbating here and there won't kill you and it definitely won't destroy your recovery, unless you're like me, where masturbation and porn go hand-in-hand, so I really can't do one without the other. Find what works for you and stay the course, and no matter what, stay positive and embrace the flatline!

What you thought you knew, you need to forget, because a new man is in the making.

I hate to quote myself, but what the hell, I'll do it anyways.

Blondie, your definitely on point. I am starting to see things differently now. I also have noticed progress in my physical withdrawal symptoms. I won’t let the flatline get into my head and I’ll just stick to daily routine. I’ll keep pushing so I one day have a success story to inspire others. Thanks man

Yes, as @Blondie said, I believe there is what I like to call "Mini flatline". It's a period of days where you feel completely drained of life, and probably libido too, then it goes back to normal, that's what happens to me actually. I've experienced cycles like that. I go a few days with urges but I feel excellent then mini flatline for a few days where I feel completely drained, asexual and with high anxiety. Now, I've never gone months without porn to see if I would enter a flatline for months. But anyway, I know flatline sucks it's a feeling of being dead but as @Blondie said, we should look at it like healing, like finally escaping from the hands of porn, we shouldn't dread it. It would be even welcome for me, because during periods like this I don't feel urges and I can't wait not to feel urges, they suck big time and now I'm in a period of urges.

Love this @Blondie line:

We're not quitting porn to get our dicks back, we're quitting porn to get our lives back! Our dicks are part of the equation, but they're not the final destination.

That’s the hole thing right there. Well said.

Hey @forceisstrong! I have read that graphic novel and it's definitely brilliant - I really loved the artwork!

Thank you for that fantastic story. I believe that's where we get the word "laconic" from. Someone who speaks with few words is laconic i.e. from Lakonia! Pretty cool stuff.

I whole heartedly agree. I think it's safe to say that porn is the epitome of one's inner demons. I will have to check that out!

Thank you.

Until meantime, let's slay us some porn demons!

Best
Hey Blondie,

Damn, you're right. Laconic came from Lakonia! That's crazzzyy!!!

Love your poem by the way!!!

Keep being a legend and let's slay some porn demons!!!

All the best
